The podcast can be found here. Some highlights: On yesterday's scrimmage--"A really good event for us." Recently had nine basketball recruits in at one time. The current "buzz" in the media is a result of two years of progress and going to the NCAA tournament. High expectations now--all good. Problem: don't play an actual game that counts until November 16--that's a long ways away. By start of practice this year, the team is physically stronger and lean--in great shape. Coach Wilson does a great job. Leslee--if he can't get a sixth year, will try to have him play in January. Joked around about the commercial with Yori--said she isn't acting (they caught her with a hidden camera), Miles should have had more than one line since he already has an Emmy. Says his "feelings are hurt" by the situation. Complained that everyone now gives him these little three inch trophies. Says the Huskers are a "nice club that can hurt you in a lot of ways." He expects Rivers to start at power forward. Benny will come off the bench at point guard. Walt is shooting better then ever--shot "lights out" yesterday. Tai is playing better than last year--expects big things from Tai. Andrew White and Terran Petteway go at it every day in practice--have a "brawl" every day. Miles will be able to talk about the next class in a few weeks--expects those players to be a "top 25" class.

Just a word to the wise (so, the fools can just ignore and move on to a different thread). We return pretty much the same team we had last year. What's that definition of insanity people keep using? I expect most of our players to be incrementally better this year than they were last. In fact, I think it's reasonable to anticipate that Tai Webster, in particular, has made some good strides. I think we add some elements, including the shooting ability of Nick Fuller, that will give us some additional firepower. As some have noted, we've lost a big contributor in Leslee Smith whose productivity is not likely to be replaced by Moses Ayegba. There's been a lot of hype about this team, but the bottom line, people, is ... DON'T LET REALITY BITE. DON'T GET TOO CAUGHT UP IN THE HYPE. I think we'll be good again. We should be even marginally better. But we haven't brought in any lottery picks and the Big Ten didn't suddenly get weak during the off-season. Our schedule will be tougher. There are a lot of reasons to think we'll be better this year than last, but I would suggest some measured optimism. Where KenPom has us to start the season, #34, is probably a pretty realistic place for us to start. If that holds true, we're maybe in the 8 vs. 9 game in the NCAA tourney and not a lock for a tourney win, either. Hey, I'm probably as optimistic and hopeful as anyone. I just don't want to see the board melt down after our first loss. That's all.

Forget about his Freshman year, LAST year he didn't leave the bench for a long stretch and I thought he was done..... but he hung with it. Players like him are invaluable on any good team and I expect a big year from David.

I still will carry the expectation that we can win every game. Sure it may be unrealistic...but...that is my expectation.

Is it fair to say that's the difference between David Rivers and Nate Hawkins? Hate to dump on the kid but Hawk could have had a pretty nice career at NU with hard work and dedication. He needed to look no further than one of his teammates to see what perseverance can do.

Okay... Might have a kidney for sale, that ought to get me enough cash to get though this season... Don't they go for about $25,000 on the black market?

As a card carrying AARP member my sights are set FAR beyond a lone tournament win......

I can't believe we'll come out of the gate as slow as last year. We get the Bearcats and Bluejays at home, and probably the Shockers on a neutral court. Here's what it really comes down to though: Can we improve on an 11 - 7 Conference record? Several teams ahead of us lost some BIG time talent. What will we get out of our "Unknown" commodities? Abraham, Fuller,Hammond, & Smith. Who knows, hopefully 1 or 2 blow up and the others are at least serviceable.

'Seating' as in No-Sit Sunday.... or, more likely, 'seeding' as in B1G & NCAA tourney seeds to play for!!

I think that I will more than tear up on senior night for David, Kye and Trevor. They stuck with it for 5 really interesting years. I will also miss Leslee and Moses but not like the other three. I hope that when we play Maryland this year for Senior night that we aren't playing for just getting in but for seating so that maybe Kye and Trevor could get the start. Also hope we blow some teams out so that these guys also get to see the court some this year.

This is important to point out. I've been one of David's biggest supporters on this board over the years. I started a thread about this time a couple of years ago saying don't over look him. But even I would have chosen him transferring to a lower level school before picking him to start on a ranked team. And that's not just because I wouldn't have guessed at the end of his freshman year that we'd be ranked in 3 years, but because I wouldn't have even seen him starting for us if we were any more than just a cellar dweller. But here's the important part: We have other options and he's STILL being tabbed as the starter. Which means that, in Coach Miles' view, David brings more to the table than shifting Tai, Terran and Shavon up a spot each and starting either Benny or Tarin as the point. He brings more to the table than Moses Abraham at the 5 and shifting Walt to the 4. We have options. There are plenty of other combinations that Coach Miles could go with. But David Frickin' Rivers, who has buckled down and made himself a better player, is starting on a ranked team. Way to go, kid. We're all very proud of you.

I like this 49'r kid. Yeah 9er's a good kid, but I really like Shields better.

BTW, 49r, thanks for doing this every year. This is always one of the best threads throughout the season. I don't have a Kenpom subscription and, while I could scan the database to come up with what you post, it's a whole lot easier with you putting it all in one place, and it also allows us to track how we're doing throughout the season and compare where we are with where we were. So, big round of applause. I do have to say that I look forward to this thread that you do every year, 49r.

What I find funny is Creighton offered him on September 28, one day after he unofficially visited Nebraska for the SECOND time. They must think they're pretty hot stuff that they can just jump in and beat us for kids we've been after for a while. So glad we got this kid, he is going to grow I would bet and he looks like he's going to be the next Shavon Shields.

This is a pipe dream, but my preference would be for name first and then including the year as a tag. Tags serve the purpose of showing similar posts together....you could click on a tag that shows you everyone from the 2015 class, for instance. This way you'd be able to prioritize by name AND year.

I see no mention of Trevor Menke. This list is dead to me.
