  1. Lightning strike knocked out my computer last night. Turned out ok since I was watching the Red Sox game and went to sleep thinking they would win. Thank goodness I had one of those "surge protector" thingees. Worked just like the pocket protector I used to wear in high school.

  2. I think Maddie will be playing the 2 guard I think they've got her figured in to be playing where they thought Tvrdy or Sadie would have been playing had they still been here. In two years I see Theriot and Romeo both as starters with Natalie at the point and Rachel playing the two. You then have Jasmine Cincore coming off the bench and Chandler Smith coming off the bench along with Simon each getting ample playing time at the one and two. I'm not sure just what Emily Wood will bring but I've been hearing she's a good three point shooter and if you can shoot it you will see the floor. Plus the fact a player like her will give it a 110% wanting to make an impact. And don't forget Kaylee Page could also play the point or 2 spot as that's what she's played her entire career. I'm not sure where Esther fits into the picture yet but she'll do anything to help out. I think the time where a player gets 36-39 minutes a game is history. We will be loaded on the wing and forwards spots as Jessica, and both Page girls will most likely anchor down those spots. All three of these women will get lots of minutes. I'm thinking they might have Allie Havers as a forward and a center. The center spot will be between four players Havers, Rachel Blackburn, Darrien Washington, and Anya Kalenta. Washington is big, strong and athletic don't be surprised she develops into a really good player. And Rachel B will be out to make a name for herself as a freshmen. The 2016 class NU will most likely be looking for some guards. And maybe another wing.

  4. Huge? Hmmm.... Well, there was a Jim Huge who was a former NU football and basketball player. Maybe I'm taking your choice of words too literally. http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=3744408 http://www.thehugefoundation.org/pdf/Jim_Huge_Bio.pdf

  6. school will likely be out, hopefully can get a good crowd there That Saturday is the week finals are over so there will still be kids around. Im sure many will stay the extra day or two to see that game against a possibly ranked opponent so i dont see a problem with attendance for this game compared to if it were a McNeese State type school.

  7. The back drop to the rankings is that they're evaluating which coaches are doing the best job RIGHT NOW. Take a snapshot of this particular moment in time and ask who the coaches are who are doing the best job and this is the list they came up with. Plenty of room for disagreement. He has taken a program that previouly just had four NCAA appearances to the eilite 8 twice, the sweet 16 once, has won the NIT, and has been runner up in the NIT as well. He did this with a program that was on probation and had a previous player murder a fellow teammate.

  8. Either the writer of the story is really naive, or the writer hid all the dirty laundry he found along the way during his reporting. School with relationship to Sunrise: "Hey Caruthers, we like that kid. He's amazing. Convince him to go to Sunrise. We'll give you this briefcase." Caruthers: "Sure thing, School. I will go pick him up at his house and move him here." School: "Thanks, and after you do that, please try and convince him to commit to our school. We've got another briefcase for you." Caruthers: "I like briefcases."

  10. Also agree with you on your thoughts Dean. biggest thing that always bothers me about when we try to compare different players from different times is which rules and equipment are we going to use? Would like to see what some of the "old" guys would have done with today's rules. Also would have liked to see how well today's players would do without the traveling, palming, physical play. Just some things to think about. What would Jessie Owns run today with the nutrition and equipment? He ran on a cinder track and dug holes for starting blocks. He also came back to the US and couldn't even eat in most of the restaurants in the country. If he could have worked out with the US Olympic training facilities. Just fun to talk about it.

  11. Yes, a real heartwarming story. Especially, that nice man, Mr. Caruthers from the AAU program. That was really nice of him to take such an interest in the young basketball player from the economically disadvantaged family. Driving him all the way to Indiana and putting him up in a hotel room, since it was just an unofficial visit, not paid for by the school. Mr. Caruthers is an assistant coach at a junior college. i wonder how much that pays. Oh, and he also helps run an AAU program. This is where he encourages young players to go to schools with which he has a "relationship." Speaking of schools, the tuition at Sunrise Christian Academy is $6,700, plus another $800 for book and activity fees. Not bad, for a kid whose mother is being threatened with eviction from her apartment because she can't afford the rent. God bless Mr. Caruthers.

  12. With all due respect, I've always been of the camp that Michael has always been over-rated. One of the greatest of course, but by what criteria do you claim he is THE greatest? He's not the biggest winner - Bill Russell. He's not the greatest scorer - Abdul-Jabar all time and Wilt for game and season. Not the best all-around player - Oscar and Magic cleaned up the triple doubles. Oscar averaged a triple double for an entire season. He came around at the right time TV-wise. Magic may have had the all-time greatest single game performance in game 6 of the 1980 NBA finals vs. Philadelphia. Kareem out with an ankle and Magic steps in to jump center and goes off for 42 points, 14 of 14 from the free throw line, 15 rebounds, seven assists, and 3 steals. I watched that game on tape delay after the 10:00 news. Magic and Larry save the NBA, and you have this fabulous player who is made for TV that comes along right after them. That guy would have been the ABA version of Dr. J if anyone would have seen that version play. No player (that I've seen, I not THAT old) has been given the benefit of the doubt like Michael. Ask Bryon Russell about that. Michael is Michael and is a great one, but the 1998 finals by all rights should have gone to a game 7. The announcer has the audacity to say Russell slips on the play after Michael pushes him down to get open. David Stern decided to sell the NBA by selling the stars and this greatest ever myth was made up as an ad campaign. And yes, I admit he started that campaign with the Magic/Bird rivalry. It made great TV and the way Michael played made great TV. We are all the product of our youth and love the players of "our" era. So I admit I may be bias but I would prefer both Larry and Magic over Michael if I was starting a team. And along those lines, How is Patrick Ewing not on the list of centers?

  14. Tad Boyle is their Danny Nee. ...and I mean that in the best, and worst, possible way. The similarities to what's happening there now vs. what we had in the 90's is astounding.

  17. Yeah, pretty sad that the AAU coach had such great influence over where the kid was going to go and it was based on what was best for the AAU program. There has to be money changing hands. Somewhere.

  18. Would anyone be against including the numbers that have been retired so far? I think it would be cool.
