HOPEFULLY the reason we told Thomas not to come is because Atewe gave us a (dreaded) silent verbal.  I kind of doubt Miles would have told Thomas not to come if he wasn't confident in our chances with Atewe.  I can't see Miles being ok with not taking a single big man in this class, whether it's a Atewe or a reach in JUCO that we can take off the books in 2015

Still would've liked to have added Thomas. Don't understand why just because Atewe might be coming that means Thomas can't come? From my understanding they're two different players, Atewe more of a defensive presence and Thomas more of a big who could slash but also shoot? When was the last time we had a big who could stretch the floor and score?

Yeah, I wonder if there's more to it than just confidence in Atewe. As some have mentioned, maybe the APR is playing a role in this, or maybe a one-and-done senior has reached out to Nebraska and indicated an interest in playing in the Big Ten.

Hopefully this is a good thing...

Robin from Rivals speculated that the reason may be that the staff are looking for size in the middle. Thomas is more of a David Rivers type player at 210 lbs and they need some real power inside. No inside knowledge here, just conjecture.

Tim Miles recently went on the road recruiting and said something to the effect that all recruiting options are on the table.

For all you gamblers out there, what are the odds that the primary result of all this is a Nebrasketball recruit not named Thomas or Atewe? I'm going right now with 50/50.

I wouldn't bet against you. Certainly Webster came from left field. Maybe there is another left field candidate out there!!!

I'd almost guarantee the 5th signee of this class is someone we wont hear about until late march or later imo.

can't see Miles reaching to fill a spot, so unless theres some legitimate stud out there that we don't know about I think we'll finish at 4 (or 3 if Atewe doesn't come here).  With our APR and lack of scholarships for the 2014 class, Miles will only take someone if he thinks they are a legitimate big 10 player.  After Parker and Vucetic, we don't have the luxury to take someone and cut them if they don't work out

Im leaning towards a grad transfer that can fill a need for one season and still give us a free scholarship for next fall.  Thats why I am saying we wont hear about it because it will be after the season before that stuff happens.

I agree with everyone who says the chances are good that we sign someone whose name hasn't been on our radar here. Like Kamdy, I'm hoping for a graduate transfer who can give us immediate help but,not tie up the spot for 2 years so we can reoffer it for 2014.

how many 1 year grad transfers would you say there are per year that can make an impact on a big10 team? 10-15? And then how many of those 10-15 gus are 6'8 power forwards/centers? 3 or 4? It's going to be tough to land one of those guys.

Nebraska is in a prime position to get a 1 year transfer. I would want to play my last year in a brand new arena in the best bball conference on a team where there is a huge need for an experienced big man.

That's the spirit, TimSmiles!

I think the best chance for our impact big man for next season will be a guy who is verbally committed but hasn't yet signed for the spring at a school where the coach gets fired.

There should be 5-10 good big men who "re-open" their recruitments once coaches get fired here in a couple of weeks, right?

I'm gonna make a topic about this.

Sounds like Minnesota is close to offering Thomas. He is their top target after gavin schilling. Would not be happy if minnesota gets him and we get leslee smith who is injury proned, has no d1 offers, and struggled at SMU.

I'd rather have the kid that is 6'9, averaged a double double on the top juco team in the country, and had offers from texas, georgetown, oregon, marquette.

Thomas is #24 and the guy he is standing next to is jonathan holton who is supposedly 6'9 and going to FIU. Thomas looks to be an inch taller than him.

Are you guys missing some one?  While I was buying $1 snacks before the last game at the Bob, I saw a Kevin Durant type guy walk in to the Devaney.  I don't have aclue where he ended up sitting.

I'm shocked we didn't at least let him come for a visit. Hopefully the reason was that miles knew there was no chance of him getting qualified. We are not in a position to pass on 6'9 forwards that have been wanted by texas, georgetown, oregon, and marquette.

I agree with this.

Although I think that the best case scenario would be for Nebraska to sign Tummala, Smith, and a grad transfer to finish the 2013 class, I would also be very pleased if Nebraska was able to finish the 2013 class by signing Tummala, Smith, and Thomas instead.
