Selection Sunday. That is, unless they win the MVC.

A win doesn't move the needle substantially for either team on selection Sunday. This game is vital to both schools because of the fans. A loss to your rival cuts the enthusiasm level substantially, which affects attendance. A lot of Doc's popularity was because he could beat )*)%&%^$ Creighton. It sure wasn't because of the job he was doing in the Big 12 or BIG.

But a loss does. And that's what I'm getting at.

But how is a mid-major loss against a BCS team worse than a BCS team with a loss against a mid major team? This isn't football, there is much more parity in basketball, especially when the mid major is not a bad team.

Because they don't play a BCS schedule and we do. They need to get more from their non-con...

I understand that, and that is fine when we are talking about tourney selection. But whether we want to admit it or not this is a rivalry game that we need to and will start winning.

It might be a rivalry game to segments of each team's fan base, but only because they have contact with people who follow the other team. IMHO, this isn't a rivalry game, because since the series resumed in 1977, and I've followed every one of the games, no one can point to any game in the series as the reason NU did/didn't make the tourney or Creighton did/didn't do the same.

Nebraska/Oklahoma football was a rivalry because there always was a conference championship at stake whenever they played. There's not squat at stake when NU/CU play in basketball. I doubt there ever will be.

Look, I love to beat the obnoxious sweater vesters in any sport as much as anyone. Doesn't mean I consider them a rival. I think of them more as a boil on my rear end.....

I really like Greg McDermott, I had the privilege of driving him and Doc home from the airport one night. He was very gracious and I actually had a good conversation with him. He asked where I was from and actually knew where it was because of his days at Wayne St. (no one knows where I'm from when I tell them.) Overall a very likable person, and he's a pretty good basketball coach, built a good team at Northern Iowa, was in the same situation we are at Iowa St. and has done a good job at Creighton.

So where are you from!

Creighton fan is hilarious. According to their board, their recruiting class has much more upside than ours does. Creighton fan also projects Tai Webster to be a 3 star (even though ESPN already has him as a 4 star). Apparently he isn't a "difference maker".

Funny how he says he ends up ranked a 3 star. He must have watched a ton of film on him and read a bunch of reviews to make that assumption. Nevermind that 113 players for 2013 are ranked 5 or 4 stars by Rivals, and Fran Fraschilla, who watched tapes of all of Webster's Olympic qualifying games, says he'd be in the Top 25 if he played in the States...leave it to Bluejay fan to evaluate our recruits though.

Hoopscoop has Nick Fulller #92 in their Top 150. I have to imagine Webster will be in there once he becomes more known, since from all that's out there it sounds like Webster is a better player than Fuller. None of Creighton's 3 signees is in there. But yes, continue to evaluate where our class stands, Creighton fan. Your basketball intelligence is superior.

Are we really ragging on them for taking this game seriously? Everyone was treating it as a big game going in.

Our players need to have this type of attitude in the game as well. Rivalries are supposed to have a big game atmosphere. I have no problem with their players treating it like a big game.

I hear what you're saying, but I'm not going to like any player attempting to taunt/show up the crowd.

If the Huskers were on an 8-0 run and Ubel hit a big shot and drew a foul and then the threw hands up to get the crowd into it, would you be calling him out?

McDermott's actions only bugged people because he is on Creighton and we don't like Creighton. That's fine. That is what a rivalry should be about.

Re-read what I said. "any player attempting to taunt/show up the crowd"

For instance, this would include Indiana player Will Sheehey who is so full of himself he has his own ridiculous wikipedia page

Does he have every right to do so? Of course. Am I just supposed to sit there and eat it with a grin on my face. Absolutely not.

If Ubel was throwing his hands up in the air, he is attempting to pump up/encourage the crowd. (you can argue that was what McDermott was trying to do but I doubt it/don't care)

I get that you're trying to downplay the importance of Creighton. Not sure about anyone else but I have similar disdain for Minnesota and Iowa. Give it a couple more years and I'm sure there will be plenty more BiG teams I can't stand as well!

Im not trying to downplay the importance of Creighton, I want it to develop into even a bigger rivalry.

I just thought some of the outrage at what McDermott did was silly because if it was a Husker we would be loving it. But I also said I understand why a Creighton player doing it bugs Husker fans.

In all fairness, there were quite a few Creighton fans in attendance. Personally, I interpreted Doug's actions as an attempt to get the Creighton fans to cheer and be loud, rather than an attempt to try to incite/taunt the Nebraska fans.

I had no issues with the big guy (00?) or McDermott's actions; on the other hand, I think both 10 and (I believe) 22 are thugs and have great disdain for their behaivior. #10 reminds me of some players that used to play for Missouri. Undertalented, and they play dirty rather than hard. It could certainly be a biased viewpoint from me...but I will take it to the grave.

What about the time he flexed his muscles to the red zone after the scrum at halfcourt (one that he didn't even do anything on, was too busy flopping). McDermott is a DAMN good player, but I lost a lot of respect for him during the NU game.
