I know, I know; one game at a time.  And, yes I understand coachspeak...but this caught my eye...

After cruising to wins over a pair of overmatched opponents, the Bluejays face a Sooner team that Creighton coach Greg McDermott calls maybe the best opponent his squad will face this season.

A ringing endorsement of the new Big East.

Saw a retweet of their SID who likes to tweet "stuff about Creighton that is about Nebraska"

Let's just say Creighton having a high RPI isn't on my wish list this year.

HELL YEAH!!

THE STATE OF NEBRASKA OWNS CENTRAL ARKANSAS....SUCK IT CENTRAL ARKANSAS!!!!!

(I mean, what the hell?  Or was that some kind of lame troll attempt?  Either way, the outcome of those games probably don't mean what he hopes they do.)

Just tweet last years NCAA scores if we are going to play that game.

Baylor may have kicked us around, but not anything like they did to Creighton, and their greatest team ever.

Besides it will be rendered moot Dec. 7 as we will then know who has bragging rights for a year.

and they will come back with that they have at least won a tourney game..

I just hope we can make it to the sweet sixteen so we can finally shut them up.

In all seriousness, though, Oklahoma is a VERY good team and will likely be the best team they face all year, possible exception being Villanova.  Creighton will have a decent shot of pulling the upset at home, too...it sounds like they expect a full, raucous house for this one.  Will probably be an entertaining game to watch!

I saw of handful of stuff like that last year when we were getting the media love about our run.

Looks like the chip on the shoulder is still Mid-Major level.

They'll fit perfectly in the new Big East.

It should be since they still are not in a power conference.  Not fond of the term mid major as there are all kinds of conferences lumped into that.  But one could certainly put the new Big East in that mid major category as a high end version of it.  Especially if Mountain West, A-ten etc are considered to be mid major.

OK, so, UNO held Central Ark to exactly 75% of the points UNO scored.

Creighton held CA to 74.04% of what Creighton scored.

And Nebraska held CA to only 68.3% of what Nebraska scored.

And that was after having a turrible first half.  And sending the freshmen and walk-ons in with about 5 minutes left to play.

Or, you could look at it this way:

We held Central Arkansas to only 32.8% shooting from the field, including 26.9% from three.  Meanwhile, we shot 52.9% from the field (64% in the 2nd half) and 31.3% from beyond the arc.

On the other hand, "Shooter U" allowed Central Arkansas to shoot 46.4% from the floor and 45.8% from three while themselves chipping in at a blistering clip of 48.6% from the floor and 34.6% from three.

Speaking of Creighton, I wish they hadn't deleted their "Delusional" thread on the Underground site because some of them had some pretty choice things to say about Tarin Smith and his anticipated ability (they figured he was going to suck) compared to their tandem of Rivals 150 recruits.

Let's tally some results, shall we?

In two games, Tarin Smith has logged a total of 32 minutes (that's an average of 16 min/game for those of you living or attending college east of 72nd Street in Omaha).  He is averaging exactly 5 points per game, 1 assist, 0.5 rebounds, 0.5 steals and NO turnovers.  In 16 minutes per game.

Meanwhile, Creighton's Rivals 150 recruits have combined season totals (in 2 games) of 12 minutes, 2 rebounds, 2 turnovers and 2 points.1

1  Full disclosure:  Those are stats for only one player; Creighton's 2nd Rivals 150 recruit was not ready for the college game and so is sitting out this season as a redshirt.

Bluebirds come back from 17 down to win.  Color me less than impressed with Oklahoma's poise.  Looks like a typical Krueger team.  That said, blue birdies were stroking it the second half.

The Jays have mostly been out-offensing us the last 3 years.

Yesterday was the first time they had under a point per possession at home since they moved to the Big East.

Last year they had 4 guys shooting over 40% from 3. So far this year it's 1.  The Huskers currently have a higher 3 pt% and we're not exactly a good 3pt shooting team.

They're a well coached team and they are definitely not going to come in here and fold.  However, the style advantage they had over us is gone.  The pack defense we run can hold this team into the 50s.  Can their defense do the same thing on the road?

December 7th should be a very fun night

Yet, just like election night it is only fun for one side...red or blue.

The blue side won't have as much fun because our hallways aren't nearly as nice as the ones they have...and we don't have beer.

What about on the inside?  Do we have beer on folding tables inside?

Our PPP in the second half was 1.2...Those around the program knew that Toby, IZ, James Millken were all capable of coming in and sticking jumpers but it has apparently shocked the nation that CU has more 3pt shooters after 3 of the most prolific shooters in program history graduated.... The offense still needs to find itself and become consistent, and when it does the average performance IMO will be closer to our second half showing than the first

Give 'em credit, they beat a ranked team.  They're obviously better than I would have expected after having lost 4 starters from last year's team.

Fortunately for us, their inside game is not a strength for them, or so it would seem.  Walt needs to find his range between now and December 7, though.

I worry about this becoming our 70's Oklahoma football series. You remember when we talked about how we needed to beat Oklahoma all, year long, and by the time the game came around our kids were so tight that if they swalloed coal that would have pooped diamonds and Oklahoma would come out and take it to us because they were so loose and good.

That can be a problem in this state with the Huskers being the only game in town for many. We obsess about it for too long.

I think that team in football right now Wisconsin, was Texas.

Just something I think about when I can't sleep.:)

Silver, I'm more worried about Rhode Island than Creighton.  I think Rhode Island has more talent and presents some match-up problems for us.  Plus, we play Rhode Island on the rhode.  At least we have Creighton at home.  I don't think our kids will be tight about playing Creighton although maybe the fans will be.

Posted

Rhode Island will be that good road test we need for us to get ready for league play. Because like in our league you need to play your best on the road or bad things can happen.

Creighton at home is a plus, but as hard at some were gripping in my section for our play the first two games, they are going to have a heart attack if the Bluejays stay close or beat us. I just hope they can turn all that negative engergy to postive to help get the win.

Over the last three years Creighton had the nation's best eFG%...a combination of good shooters and McBuckets often needing double teams. I'm not sure Zierden/Hegner/Milliken are better shooting replacements and I there is no way Brooks/Chatman can free them up as well as Doug.  Above average shooting/scoring isn't the same as elite shooting/scoring.
