throwback Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 Since things should start heating up tomorrow, anyone who follows recruiting more closely than I do have some educated guesses on how we fill these 4 scholarships? I'll start with the easy one: Smith Then I'd guess Ayegba and Deng. I have no idea on the fourth - maybe another senior grad transfer? Someone else will have a much better educated guess than I could ever give I'm sure. Will they hold it for at least a couple weeks on the slim chance of stealing Ristic at the last minute? And this could drag on well into May correct? Both because the end of the spring signing period is May 21 I think and because transfers have no impending deadline on when they can enroll. Should be a fun month! Quote
Norm Peterson Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 Not even remotely able to guess. I got Smith and that's as far as I can go. Quote
aphilso1 Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 I'm holding out hope that Ristic is a silent commit, pending Arizona not having room for him. That would seem to make a lot of sense, given Miles' spring game comments about getting better bigs and the widespread speculation that someone has committed but can't openly say so. Why would someone be a silent commit at this point? I can't think of a better reason than Ristic's, since he is officially committed to a school that probably has no room for him. Doesn't want to back out of his commitment, but needs an agreement with a safety net program too. It's a smart move for Ristic to have a backup plan, and an even smarter move for that backup plan to be a team that is probably not going to fill all of it's scholarships (us!). Combine that with Ristic's earlier comments that Nebraska was his #2, and I don't think it's too much of a stretch to think that he fills out paperwork for both AU and NU. Then when Zona fills up, he sends us the fax instead. So I'm going with-- Smith Ristic Ayegba ??? Quote
ajb5856 Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 So once and for all, we've figured out that Arizona HAS room for Ristic, correct? Assuming Nick Johnson declares for the draft? And here it is: @JarredBelman: Arizona G Nick Johnson will declare for the #NBADraft. #NBA So...the Ristic ship has sailed? Right? They have room for him? Not trying to be a smart ass, just want ultimate clarification since this has been discussed on multiple threads. Quote

TheKamdyMan Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 I will say Ayegba and two unknown, publicly, transfers fill the final two spots. Quote
ajb5856 Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 I will say Ayegba and two unknown, publicly, transfers fill the final two spots. So your 'prediction' is for Ayegba plus two more transfers? And am I reading this right? You're saying that this is all you will say publicly, as in you know something, or that the remaining 2 transfers are unknown publicly right now? Quote

Silverbacked1 Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 Wait didn't we had that thread about that 7 footer who showed up and wanted to play. I think the thread was started by Dimes back on let me see April 1 st. Yeah that was the one he looked good in the picture. And it has been a couple of weeks since we heard about him. Hope that works out. Yep it was on here April 1 st... Oh crap.... Never mind. AuroranHusker 1 Quote

This is the source of that tweet, btw. https://twitter.com/JarredBelman There should be a more formal announcement around noon. Quote
throwback Posted April 15, 2014 Author Report Posted April 15, 2014 Good info everyone thanks - glad to know I'm not the only one in the dark. No other votes for Deng huh? I could see where he may be a "fall back" option if some other transfers fall through since he seems to be visiting later in the signing period. His numbers were so good I think taking a chance on him would be worth it - even with the ankle injury and even if he couldn't play next season. But I also understand with next season shaping up to potentially be special, finding pieces that can play immediately has to be the priority. Quote

For having 3 spots yet to fill you would think we would've heard a few more names. Only makes sense that Miles is sitting back saying, "I got this....I got it, guys". Must have a secret one or two stashed away. Quote

Nebrasketballer Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 After Tarrin Smith signs, Nebraska will have 3 available scholarships left. I would like to see Nebraska get: -Moses Ayegba (G'town transfer) -Stephen Domingo (G'town transfer) -Justin Martin (Xavier transfer) http://sports.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/basketball/recruiting/player-Justin-Martin-70939 http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Stephen-Domingo-114693 Not sure if Nebraska even has a shot with Justin Martin, so if they can't land him, I would like to see Nebraska land Deng Deng. Silverbacked1 Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 One of the things that I think we are over looking a bit is that team has really good chemistry. And I think it got stronger when one player was asked to leave. So Tim has to keep that in mind when bringing in players, especially one and done transfers. He will need to find pieces who are willing to be part of something and not one who is trying to get his so that he can go on to the next level. Whatever that level is. This could be as important as finding certain players, we need to find plays who will fit. throwback 1 Quote

Great talent, but obviously a guy who has one and done potential. Trying to get one of those to come in and mesh with existing parts would be a challenge. Now, by no means do you turn one of those types away. Tim is probably just being extra careful with how he selects and is determining character and a guys 'buy-in' probability. Quote
hhcmatt Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 Just for kicks, 4 players recruited by Colorado St. in the past who are transferring. I doubt any of them are picked up by us. One name should look pretty familiar. Quinton Chievous Keith Coleman Mario Moody Nick Shepherd Quote

GATA Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 I don't know how educated my guess is, but I think we use the remaining three schollies on Ayegba, Deng and some unnamed transfer. Quote
Swan88 Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 Not much for guesses here, except that it seems we are in some sort of holding pattern with both Ayegba and Deng. Why? And toward what end? The only people who know are, apparently, not talking. Norm Peterson and hhcmatt 2 Quote

Swan88 Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 "This class could hurt"? Seriously?! Sheesh. Consider it this way: Tim Miles and Co. appear to have both Ayegba and Deng in the fold, if and when the coaches are ready to pull the trigger on them. Meanwhile, the coaches are swinging for the fence behind the scenes, under the radar, and without consulting us internet geniuses. Quote
