AuroranHusker Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 It's only a highlight reel, but Deshawn has a similarity to the unbridled athleticism of Terran in H.S. Looks like a prospect that Miles would have heavy interest in... Freeman apparently missed at least 16 games this past year while playing in 17, so I will be interested to learn more about him in the upcoming full season of JUCO ball. Quote
FredsSlacks Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 this kid's recruiting must be blowing up if 2 coaches went to see him on Easter Sunday. Quote
throwback Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 Sorry to hi-jack - but does the fact that we're hearing more about Miles making visits with 2015 prospects mean that he's pretty confident that he has 2014 almost wrapped up? And we're just waiting on certain players to finish academic requirements before announcing anything? Or maybe we have a couple of them almost wrapped up and we're just kind of waiting to see who else shakes out in terms of 2014 transfers for the last one? On one hand it just seems a little odd to keep getting news on 2015 guys but hearing crickets on 2014 - then on the other hand since we have to be a little careful on how initial contact is made with transfers, it probably makes some sense that we wouldn't hear all that much on them, at least until they are ready to make a visit. There's no chance Miles doesn't have a plan in place, so I'm leaning toward he feels we're in good shape on a couple and we're still weighing our options on #3. Obviously there's still plenty of time to fill out the 2014-15 roster, so it makes sense to hold out to weigh all options. Quote

I think Deng Deng is the only non-transfer left on the board so thats why its kind of quiet. Transfer can sometimes take a longer process to make sure everything is confirmed but they also can sign at any time. Quote
Navin R. Johnson Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Robin Washut @RobinWashut 3m #Nebrasketball will be in tomorrow to see 2015 forward Deshawn Freeman of Hutchinson (Kan.) C.C., per @JucoRecruiting Quote
Norm Peterson Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Hate to be the one to say it, but we already have a thread on this kid. Can a mod combine the two? Quote
Norm Peterson Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Fact we're in visiting this kid now could give an indication of how comfortable this staff feels about our big man situation and the likelihood that Petteway leaves after this year. Freeman is not an inside presence. He's more of a 3 to stretch 4, which Miles likes to have in abundance. I can see wanting to bring in an Ed Morrow, a Michael Jacobson, an Andrew White AND a Deshawn Freeman IF you feel good about what you've seen so far with Jake Hammond. Wait a sec. I'm not sure this makes a lot of sense unless you have a bead on another big. That's a lot of ~ 6'7" ish guys. Need a 6'10" dude who can bang. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted September 16, 2014 Author Report Posted September 16, 2014 I think hes a guy you stay on top of but I dont see him coming to NU. You have to continue to stay on top of the talent in the Jayhawk conference. Remember Pinder is also a freshman at Hutch this year so its very much a 2 birds one stone trip imo. Quote

Norm Peterson Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 OK, well let's war-game this one a little bit. Let's say we get Morrow next week as everyone expects. And then we sign this Freeman kid as well. Let's further assume Petteway to the NBA. Do we have any glaring holes in our roster at that point? PG 5'9" Benny Parker, Sr. PG 6'2" Tarin Smith, So. PG 6'0" Glynn Watson, Fr. PG/SG 6'4" Tai Webster, Jr. SG/SF 6'7" Andrew White, Jr. SF 6'7" Deshawn Freeman, Jr. SF 6'7" Nick Fuller, So. SF/PF 6'7" Ed Morrow, Fr. SF/PF 6'7" Shavon Shields, Sr. SF/PF 6'8" Michael Jacobson, Fr. PF 6'10" Walter Pitchford, Sr. C 6'10" Jacob Hammond, So. (PF/C 6'8" Leslee Smith, Sr. or other recruit) If we add Morrow and still go after Freeman, then I think we have two positions of need where we'd be a little short on bodies: We'd need a freshman big and an athletic shooting guard type who can drain perimeter jumpers. But, Freeman could be good enough of a prospect that you take him anyway, if you can get him. I think we certainly saw last year how tough we can be with a lot of ~6'7" guys who can guard a number of spots on the floor. And we would still have a couple of guys who can shoot. Hmmm. Interesting. Edited to add: Can you imagine how competitive the scrimmages would be? AuroranHusker 1 Quote
OurDecay Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Freeman is good enough that you take him regardless. Silverbacked1 1 Quote
AuroranHusker Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Freeman is good enough that you take him regardless. This would be a great 'get' for Miles & Co.: Freeman is forward who has the skill and ability to step away from the basket and attack off the dribble. He is also very good in the low and mid post. Due to his ability to go inside and out, he creates matchup problems for opposing players. He is a good athlete and a very good rebounder who has good timing when the ball is coming off the rim. Last season he averaged 16.4 points and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 56% from the field. Quote
meerkat68901 Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Hope I'm wrong here, but any chance this has anything to do with a sudden change in our chances with Morrow? Quote
kldm64 Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Hope I'm wrong here, but any chance this has anything to do with a sudden change in our chances with Morrow? It's not one or the other. I'd take them both if possible. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted September 16, 2014 Author Report Posted September 16, 2014 Hutch has Freeman but also Pinder is there and there's a center, Jabari Craig, that had some good offers and was committed to USC that didnt make grades at Hutch. Its worth checking out everyone there and keep close to a program thats had some star players lately. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Hope I'm wrong here, but any chance this has anything to do with a sudden change in our chances with Morrow? Nah. I cannot imagine. The kid is coming here for an official visit on the same weekend that his dad is going to be honored for playing on the national championship team in 1994 that beat Miami in the Orange Bowl. He knows this ahead of time. It's no accident that it worked out this way. I would honestly be shocked if he winds up somewhere else. My guess is the trip is "just to be sure." He's already done an unofficial. He has no other visits pending. He might have already decided and just wants to commit in person. But even if he's still considering his options, this is probably like one last walk through the house before telling the realtor to write an offer. The fact there's been no noise about any other visits suggests his mind is pretty well made up. AuroranHusker, bobcat402 and Silverbacked1 3 Quote
