I like it. With everyone that Nebraska has coming back, I think they have a good shot at getting between a 4-seed and a 6-seed. These guys won't have to spend half of the season learning their roles and learning how to play together as a team. It won't take until January for them to learn how to win. My prediction is that Nebraska will win 22-24 games during the regular season and finish in the top-5 of the Big Ten Conference standings for the regular season. I also think Nebraska will win 1-2 games in the Big Ten Tournament, so this team could have as many as 25-26 wins on selection Sunday.

Time to start the bubble watch thread

Who cares if that other schools on the bubble or not... :)

Don't we want to know who we'll be playing when we get a 6 seed next year?? ;)

They'll be a 12 seed play in at best!

My only question is, WHO'S going to Hawaii for the Holiday Tournament. Huskers/Witchita would be a sweet match-up. Maybe beat up on the Buffs like the old days, or maybe Big Red vs. the Blue Demons. Can't wait to hit the beach in my Husker gear!

Should start out ranked or close to it.  Non-conference probably won't spoil that for us.  Very well could be ranked by the time we reach conference play.  Could get a little roughed up in conference games and drop out of the polls if we get there to begin with.  But, depending on how we fill these last remaining spots, we could very well hang in the ratings through to the end of the season.

If I had to predict right now, though, based on the players we know we'll have, I would guess we start out not ranked but receiving votes.  Win a few early in the non-conference and creep into the top 25, then lose a game or two in league and drop back out but still receiving votes.  Then, reach the Sweet 16 next year and finish in the top 20 of both polls.

How's that?

Not even.  Try CBI at best.

While all of the early preseason top25 rankings coming out now will obviously not be the exact way that the top25 shakes out...I think there is some merit to them, at least as far as the NCAA Tourney is concerned. While Nebraska being included in these early top25 polls doesn't mean they will necessarily finish the season in the top25...they do indicate that Nebraska has a very very very strong chance of making the NCAA Tourney for their 2nd consecutive season.

I'm pretty sure that I heard on Drop the Mic with Mike Welch today that 23 of the 25 teams in the early preseason top25 poll of either Gary Parrish or Seth Davis for this last season ended up making the NCAA Tourney (92%). Marquette and Georgetown were the only 2 teams ranked in his early preseason top 25 that failed to make NCAA Tourney.

So, if that holds true this season as well, then Nebraska has a 92% chance of making the NCAA Tourney this coming season. That's pretty good odds for a team that just ended a 15 year drought. (Obviously I know that it's not a given that 23 of 25 will make it again this next season...I'm just throwing it out there for people to think about...)

I remember reading somewhere on Kenpom's site that the pre-season polls end up being a better indicator of who gets into the NCAA tourney than the mid- to end-season polls.  I can't explain the underlying basis but his point was that teams go up in the polls based on not losing no matter how sketch their schedule, or they drop in the ratings even if they lose to the #1 team.  And, so, he took a look at pre-season polls vs. the final regular season polls to figure out which was a more accurate predictor of the final 4 or final 8 or whatever teams.  And, lo and behold, what we thought at the beginning of the year tended to be a more accurate reflection than how the polls were distorted by voters down the line.

At least that's how I remember it.  Can anyone check me on that?
