I would love to see college basketball adopt a two-shots plus possession or just possession/reset the shot clock option to combat intentional time stopping fouls.

Id also like to do away with the hold the ball slowdown strategy to reduce possessions and make up for inadequate abilities.

I know many will object, but I ask you to consider what makes you like watching or playing basketball. No one goes to the rec center to run 30 seconds off the clock or starts fouling in pickup games, winning basketball is played by scoring and defending not manipulating the clock

You have never seen me play because I love the slow and hold when I play. Could hold it for a look time. When I have the ball I don't have to move, which means I don't get tired which means I play for a lot longer.;)

I see what you're saying, but at the rec you play until you reach a point total, like 15 or 21. Not for a certain amount of time

My buddy and I were just discussing all of the timeouts that coaches feel the need to take in the last minute of games. What do these teams do in their practices for the 6 months leading up to the tournament? Do they not practice end of game scenarios without having to call a timeout before every possession? Seems like a lot of coaches "over coaching" IMO. The odds of getting a basket seem much higher when they just attack and don't allow the opposition to set up their defense and bring in defensive subs.

One of the things I like about Tim Miles is that he generally doesn't overuse timeouts.  I think he has a very good understanding that when he calls a TO, he's not the only head coach in the room that's drawing up a play -- the other team is also using YOUR timeout to THEIR advantage.  Most of the time there's just no need to burn all of your timeouts.

That's like me when I used to paintball. Got a Tippman flatline so I could shoot farther and run less.

I would like to go back to the bonus...no double bonus....if they miss first, save about 15 seconds as play resumes faster...

All fouls after seven are one and ones.

Personally, I'd take it the other way as the "1-and-1 at all times" would tend to allow teams to continue to hack away at the lesser FT shooters even more than they do now... By contrast, I'd make the 13th foul of the half a three-to-make-2 at the FT line, which would likely force teams to not rely as much on getting too large of an advantage when the other team seems to struggle w/ FT attempts (particularly front-ends). It may not speed up the game, but it would give the team ahead w/ a  minute left a more level opportunity to stay ahead than the present system (see NU-Minn game when the Gophers cut a 10-pt deficit to 2 in a minute's time).

Not trying to be sarcastic, but you have a pretty level opportunity to stay ahead if you make your free throws

True. My concern is the opponent has the opportunity to make 3's each possession, so even if you make both FTs it's "at best" a 1-pt deficit every time.

I would rather have one and ones and more likely get a close finish then a team up 15 coast to a win.

Make your free throws, and you more than likely win in all scenarios.....but miss them and fans get excitement...

I remember Nebraska beating Missouri and Kansas in games they had no business winning in Danny nee's second or third year, because they started fouling with three minutes left and the opposing teams failed to make their free throws....

To me, those games are fun to watch....games that end with a team up fifteen and running out the clock, not so much.

Again no sarcasm intended but if your team shoots 3's at a higher percentage than I shoot free throws, how did they ever get behind in the first place?

Trying to be sarcastic, WHY WOULD ANYONE SHOUT FREE THROWS! ;) (for entertainment value, at some point you changed 'shout' to 'shoot' there, Dean Smith)

By the way, the scenario I mentioned is in regards to "the team behind by 10+ with a minute left" and it bothered me that Minny had a chance to win w/ a few seconds on the clock in Lincoln... it's probably as much that NU had a couple turnovers & Tai missed 2 FTs as anything to 'fix' w/ the game.

Just wanted to make a random thought/observation after seeing a couple other games that went hack-a-quack in the tourney that prolonged the game more than it needed. Any other thoughts or observations are appreciated.

I did think it was funny last night when AZ & SDSU fans seemed to boo Baylor when they were fouling Wisky while down 19! That needless hacking stuff just bugs me, apparently more than others are annoyed...

They go to the monitor wayyyy too often. I get wanting to get it right... but wow

There was a play in the Michigan game where the ball was knocked out of bounds. The ref didn't even make a call as to whose ball it was. He just went over to the monitor. The refs are relying too much on the monitor.

Even if you gave them four foul shots...they will still foul, to speed up the game...one and one free throws will shorten the game.

Do you mean they will still foul to lengthen the game when behind?

Pretty sure if teams were given 4 FTAs at, say, the 15th foul of the half that the opponent would likely not be fouling their brains out unless there it was pure desperation w/ the shot clock off.  That thought may actually speed up the game, but it's not too likely to ever happen.  The 3-to-make-2 would be a possibility, but again not too likely to be considered.

When did the NBA quit doing that and the 2 for 1's on a shooting foul?
