It's a no-brainer.  Not even subject to debate. I suppose the only issue is timing.  It will, and should, take several years, but it won't be as long as for Ivy.

Hooper is 1st in 3 pointers, 2nd all-time scoring, 2nd all-time rebounding, tied for 1st all-time double-doubles, top 10 all-time Big 10 in scoring and rebounding, top 5 at NU all time starts and minutes played.  Just some highlights.  3 NCAA tourney berths during her tenure, including a Round of 32, Sweet 16.  Big 10 tourney title.

I agree not even debatable.

Now the one that is debatable is Lindsey. As great as she was to us, she is lacking in conference and national awards. I don't think she was ever first team all conference. That guard from Penn State, Alex something or other kept beating her out. We shall see but it is debatable.

00 is the best point guard in the history of Nebraska Women's BB.  She might not have the national awards but her jersey deserves to be put up at PBA.

You may have to reclassify that Cazzie, probably second best to Theriot. I think she will be the best before she is done playing if she says healthy.

I agree Lindsey is still the best pg to ever play here, but Theriot is closing in fast.

We're starting to get spoiled with good players during the Griffin/Moore/Hooper era, and I don't really see an end in sight. I think it's a safe bet that we will someday talk about the Griffin/Moore/Hooper/Theriot/Shepard era, possibly with Page(s) included and without even mentioning Emily Cady, who would've been the best player on a lot of Husker teams in the 90's and 2000's.

Good problem to have. Almost becoming reminiscent of the volleyball program.

Will the lack of jerseys on the guys' side slow the raising of jerseys to the rafters on the women's side?

I mean, you can't retire a dozen jerseys on the one side and only hang three on the other, can you?

I don't see why the university couldn't do that if one program has better players than the other and they think that they need retired then why punish the better program.

Yeah, but ... what do you bet?

Hooper and Moore, by any measurement, should be up there.

Moore vs. Theriot? I think you have to appreciate Lindsey's quality of defense -- Rachel's not there yet -- and Lindsey's almost astonishing ability (for a PG) to draw fouls and get to the FT line. She was hard to hedge on pick and rolls; she turned the corner quicker, drove harder, and spent years (and years) perfecting her takes to the rim so she didn't get nearly as intimidated by posts. With Rachel you get the jumper of the screen, and that's appreciable, and she might be a slightly more versatile passer than Moore, though not necessarily better. Rachel had more weapons this year, though, especially with Laudermill suddenly leaping into a different tier of player.

Great post, Sam.  I had to laugh when I read your comments about Lindsey's defense, however--we had a former poster on the women's board (Chipper F1) who ripped Moore for her defense for 4 years.  I never understood it, but I guess everyone with a keyboard can fire up some posts.  Hope you will continue to visit us now and then.

Wow, who is the J Hoop hater voting not to have Jersey retired.

Kind of surprised it didn't happen sooner.   A unanimous vote on a message board is about unheard of.  Probably someone just messing around or being a contrarian.  I doubt we'll hear any actual reasons why her number wouldn't be retired.

Definitely JHoop gets her number up on the wall. I’d like to see at least a 5 year waiting period before they can be put up there though. KG said it best when she said it meant a lot more to her having her jersey retired after a waiting period as opposed to having it done soon after she graduated.

I realize some of the posters haven’t seen much Husker women’s basketball prior the Kelsey Griffin era but I think if anyone deserves to have her jersey on the wall it’s Meggan Yedsena.(91-94) Some say Lindsey was the best point guard in Husker history and they may very well be right but I’m willing to bet they never saw Meggan. She ranks right up there with Zeroes in my book. I loved watching that kid play as much as I did Zeroes! She set career marks in assists and steals and it took a long time to break those marks as the years past. She is the main reason I decided to put dime down on season tickets back in the day as opposed to just going to select games.

And there’s no Husker that’s taken their basketball career further than what Anna DeForge has. But getting her jersey up there is most likely a longshot at best.

Watched almost every one of Meggan's home games plus the Big 8 tournament games and a few roadies.  She was a great point guard.  Had decent talent around her but less than Lindsay played with by far.  Was disappointed we didn't have at least one of her seasons end with a mini-run in the tournament.  Mrs. HB and I actually subbed in for Meggan's parents on Senior Day which was a huge honor.  But, putting aside any bias, I have to rate Lindsay a little higher as a player.  They were both great players, but I think Lindsay shot if better from long range, and could take it to the goal a little better.  Better defender also.  The 20 year gap in when they played makes the comparison difficult, but that is just one guy's take.

It is always interesting to try to compare players from different eras.  It doesn't always work very well!

No it don't, But Numbers usually don't lie just like THE BALL DON"T LIE
