I think we have a better chance to beat Creighton than we do at beating Baylor.  Not liking the idea of facing a zone the whole game forcing us to shoot jumpers.  We will need Rey to have a big game to win this one IMO.  And on the other end...Baylor is very good solid on the offensive end.  It will be a fun matchup, but a tough game for us.

if you were going to pick any coach to play against of all the tournament teams, it just might be that little worm Scott Drew.

I came to visit to learn more about NEB's strengths and weaknesses and wondered what Husker fans knew/thought about my Bears. Pretty interesting similarties between how the seasons started well, went through big lulls and then finished strong. Will be interesting to see which "strength" wins out at the end of the day. Personally, I am worried about the size of your guards and their ability to get into our zone and create havoc. We definitely have to be able to continue to be very effecient on offense to beat NEB. One similarity I see in both teams is that they are tough minded. If they weren't, neither would in San Antonio after their respective conference starts.

One thing I always find intriguing in visiting other teams' message boards is the customary slights on Drew's coaching ability. Heck, visit baylorfans.com (at your own peril) and you will find a loud minority of 4-5 posters who do nothing but complain about Drew. The most obnoxious groups of Drew haters though are the KU fans and ISU fans (a very distant second to KU). As I registered to respond to this quoted post, I didn't realize that in fact a KU fan had infiltrated this site to post Drew comments. Just for grins though, while Drew may not be Coach K, here are his tournament results over the last few years:

4 wins - 2009 NIT Finals

3 wins - 2010 NCAA Elite 8

0 wins - 2011 No postseason (Didn't make NIT - Perry Jones III suspended prior to first game of Big 12 tournament)

3 wins - 2012 NCAA Elite 8

5 wins - 2013 NIT Champs

He has also led the Bears to the the championship game of the Big 12 Tournament 3 times in the last 6 years. Granted, we are 0-3 in those games. To me, the results indicate that he does have some coaching ability, especially come tournament time. Just FYI.

Fine rebuttal, Lawbear. I figure at least he's not Dave Bliss, right? :)

Here's to hoping that this season, he's a one and done coach. Should be a good game in any event. Always nice to go back to an old B12 partner.

First welcome Law, We don't mind people coming here if they ain't trolling. You will find here will talk about what is going to happen or hope will happen. We are kind of over talking bad about Your coach because we have players to complain about. ie... Craft, Gibbs, McBuckets.;)

Miles has many sayings, but the one I think if we do we tend to win. "Love the rim, Like the three."

To me, we play best when we drive because that means that we get to the line too. We shoot pretty well from the free throw line and that has been the difference in a couple of games for us.

We really are, at least I think, one year early to the dance. Really happy to be here, but maybe not quite ready. This is just my opinion. Many of our fans feel we are a true point and big away from being really good.

Best thing about this team is they are hard nosed and you will know that you have played us.

Good luck and if you do beat us, please, please beat Creighton. We love them like you love the other Texas schools.;)

Thanks.

One thing we do not do well at all is shoot free throws. Poor FT shooting litererally cost us 2 early conference games (less than 50% in one if I remember correctly). Occassionally, we can shoot lights out from the line, but those are few and far between. Unless it is Chery or Heslip shooting FT's, I generally just hope we can get an offensive rebound.

One other weakness I think we have is transition defense. ISU killed us in transition in Ames and in the Big 12 Championship game when we had a poor offensive possession (i.e Austin jacking a 3 and not getting back on D) or a live-ball turnover.  Funny, our transition D got a lot better as the year went on, but that was driven in large part by a healthy Chery at PG and a drastic reduction in turnovers. If we turn the ball over or take bad shots, it invariable leads to a great opportunity on the other end. I hope to not see much of that on Friday.

Had the priviledge of taking in 2 Baylor-NEB football games in Lincoln long ago and had great trips - other than the games themselves. Too bad we were as pathetic as we were for the first 15 years of the Big 12. Would be a much better matchup these days with Briles at the helm.

Free advice when defending Scott Drew, don't include the NIT, doesn't help him. Scott is a great recruiter, but a sub-par coach. The reason people "hate" on Scott is because he doesn't do as much as he should with his talent. Call it hate all you want, but it's fair criticism. Miles maximizes talent and usually makes smart in-game decisions. That edge is why this game is the closest of all the 6 vs. 11 match ups, and why many are picking Nebraska.

Been creeping around a bit on the Baylor boards and they seem concerned with our athletic guards and matchup problems. The general consensus is that we have a great coach and that out of all of the 11 seeds, we were the toughest draw both from a matchup point of view and in comparison with the others.

That said, we need to pace ourselves, as we could easily lose this one if we don't play good team basketball. Looking forward to it though, since it is an ideal matchup for us. :)

I seem to recall Miles commenting that in the Big 12 you can always find a shot. Baylor may not be used to being defended well and could get thrown off their groove. One of the main reasons were are in this tournament is because we learned to defend well. If they, in turn, defend with a 1-3-1 zone as they seem prone to do, that opens they way for driving to the hoop which we are good at PROVIDED we at least make them respect us from the 3 pt line. Pitchford and Ray will be huge in this game if we are going to win it.

UMass fan here. I visited this board back in November during the Charleston Classic when UMass played Nebraska.  After that many UMass fans followed Nebraska. It's not unusul to follow a team somewhat after you play them, the better they look the better you look but  more than usual attention was paid to Nebraska by UMass fans.  You had a lot of fans rooting for Nebraska all season and tonight during the selcetion show a bunch of UMass fans were at a bar watching it, when Nebraska showed up in the dance everyone clapped.  Good luck!

Good luck to you guys as well. I have UMASS defeating Duke to get to the Sweet Sixteen.

The concern is rebounding! We give up way to many second and third chances!

We were the best defensive rebounding team in the Big Ten.

In terms of Offensive Rebound %, Baylor is #3 in the country.

Yes, I definitely agree that it will be important in this game, I was just referring to the "we give up too many 2nd and 3rd chances" part. Comparatively, we actually give up fewer of those than most.
