He's the next Serj

Except he will weigh 250+ by the time he would get to Lincoln. And that's like 20 lbs more than Vucetic weighs after 2 years in Nebraska's strength and conditioning program.

His build also seems much more capable of putting on more muscle more efficiently.

I'm not saying I think he is a gamechnger or anything. I just think he and Vucetic aren't very similar, except for the fact that they are both 7'...

As Husker fans we all know weight does not a center make(Almeida). Plenty of centers are able to play in college successfully that weigh less than Serj. Height and weight only take you so far, at some point you need talent and athleticism.

From what I can find he's got 2 stars and an offer from Albany. Do potential walk-ons make official visits??

Hopefully part of a visit is some sort of workout or something of that nature.

If the original Miles and Co whiffed after watching Serge then hopefully Kenya is the eye they need to determine whether they have a stiff or the coveted "Late Bloomer"

In Coach Miles I trust.  Perhaps he was a bit quick on the trigger with Vooch.  I guess we may have two more years to verify.  That said, at this juncture, we are not going to take a flyer on someone who cannot contribute.  If this kid is coming, he has an upside.

There is a big difference between 315 lbs and 250 lbs...

Almeida had very little lean muscle mass and probably had a vert of less than 6". Again, just like comparing him to Vucetic, Kabadyundi and Almeida have very little in common, except for their height...

In defense of Miles bringing in Vooch, here was a 7 footer with skill who was not well known and available when he arrived in Lincoln.  Vooch was definitely worth taking a chance on.  Unfortunately, Vooch has not progressed the way one might have hoped.  You can see he's better than he was last year but he still has a very long road ahead before he's going to be capable of contributing at crunch time.

I suppose you reach a point where you have to decide whether to continue to call to see if the next card completes your straight or whether it's time to fold.  If the odds don't stack up in your favor, it may just be time to throw in your cards and wait for the next hand rather than throwing good money after bad.  And so it may be with Vooch.  If you give him another year and he still hasn't developed to the point of contributing significantly, do you give him another year after that?  How long does he have to show sufficient progress before you decide it's not a safe bet?

Vooch is like having pocket 6 and 8 and a flop of 5, 6 and 9.  So, now you have a pair of 6s which, by itself isn't good enough to bet, but you have an outside chance at a 9-high straight.  If the other guy raises big after the flop, do you call, hoping to get that 7?  And then pay still more to see the river if the 7 doesn't show up on the turn?  Or do you cut your losses after the flop and wait for a better hand?

You probably fold and feel good about the decision even if the river is a 7.  And, therefore, poor Vooch.  It's not to say he can't possibly progress enough to keep him around.  It's just that the odds are too long.  And Miles isn't playing with house money at this point.

How's that for a gambling analogy?

His only offer is still Albany.  He visited Oklahoma and has no offer.  Remember Vucetic had offers and not just interest from Providence, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, UNCC, Nevada, and Rhode Island yet we all know where he is at today.  I could be completely wrong but watching his video he is underwhelming against inferior talent and thats at the high school level.  The size and some of his athleticism is intriguing but intrigue only goes so far.

Quick, tell me who Shavon's other offers were from.

Nevermind, I'll tell you: Long Beach St., Weber St. and Wyoming. I know Shields was a Doc recruit, but find the right guys for your program and get them on board.

True, but Shavon wasn't 7'1.   If you're that tall and your only offer is Albany, I'm sorry but you aren't very good.  Usually just being over 7-foot is enough to get at least a handful of major-conference scholarship offers.

Youre right but he also signed in the fall.  If Shavon had gone unsigned his senior year would have definitely garnered more offers by the spring.  If youre this close to the spring signing period of your senior year and theres one low level D1 offer......

Disagree.

When you're an under the radar recruit who commits early to a college...what is the point for any of the big boys to even look at him?

Cue Jackson Davis, because thats pretty much whats happening to him.  Under the radar, committed to Rice, now Louisville, NU, Creighton, Minnesota, among tons of others are now jumping on him.
