OK, interesting Creighton discussion.  But, keepin' it real here.  A lot of Creighton's success over the last few years can be attributed to one person.  And that person isn't their coach.  He's there another year but, let's face, it, they have some big shoes to fill when Doug McDermott leaves.  And he won't be there at Creighton anymore when Leon Gilmore starts his college career.  So, if Creighton's success over the last several years is an issue that would hold sway with him, then he better think carefully because the NCAA isn't giving Doug McDermott six seaons of eligibility the way they did with Grant Gibbs.

I should have known that bringing football into the discussion would cause some to lose all control of reason

Whoooooooa a top 5 soccer team, that might lead to a 2 - nil game instead of the traditional 1 nil yawner.  We can throw National titles in rifle and bowling to go with real football.

Good.  You should totally take him to a women's bowling match (do they call them matches?).  If that doesn't cause him to commit on the spot, I don't know what will.

Speaking of yawners, that Nebraska-Iowa football game was nonstop action, wasn't it?  I was in Vegas at the time siting in a sportsbook waiting for the Creighton-Wisconsin basketball game and they actually turned it off to turn on something more exciting.

Do you have any clue about anything?  You are aware of the wind conditions that day correct?  My goodness, you make a bigger ass of yourself with nearly every post.

4) I don't know that I'd necessarily use the term "stole", but you did get him to come to Lincoln and it was a very big hire.  Congratulations as I admit this was a big deal.  By way of comparison, I'd point out that Creighton brought in a former assistant to the national championship UConn team under Jim Calhoun.  Parties can obviously disagree as to which was the bigger hire, but a truly objective person would find it pretty hard to say that Nebraska's hire was overwhelmingly superior.

I was fine up until this point.  Sellers came from HOFSTRA!! He wasnt at UCONN when you got him.  If he had been that big of a commodity even in the slightest he would've gotten a better gig after being let go at UCONN.  He was on his way down not on his way up.

Holy smokes.  Tommy G making a complete fool of himself.  Even Creighton fans have to laugh when they come read this. They probably feel embarrassed since he makes them all look bad.   Hard to get his ass kicked as much as he does here.

I think that Nebraska will win the Big 10 this year after their stellar season last year, and with their leading scorer and rebounder returning. I don't see Creighton winning any Big East games this year without having a top 150 recruit in their starting line-up. Did they even have ANY recruits over the last three years? If the 'Skers can score as many points as Wisconsin did in the Big 10 championship football game, it's a no brainer.

Tony=Obsessed.  Look above if you want to see a major butthurt Creighton fan.  It just absolutely KILLS him than Dear Ole NU gets ALL the press in this state.  Jays fans love to bitch about the OWH and them catering to their top customer(why wouldnt they??)....yet poor Jays fans still read the articles.  Lttle brother syndrom at its finest.

Which team is opening up a brand new arena? Which team has completely sold out their arena with season tickets? Which team has had multiple articles written about them this summer by national writers? Which team stole the longest tenured assistant on Georgetown's staff? Which team has 5 Sweet16 teams coming to their arena this season?

Okay, its a slow day, so I'll play along.

1) Yes, you are opening a new arena. New arenas don't usually make teams better, but I get the excitement.  I felt the same way when Creighton moved to the Qwest and again when they expanded the arena a couple of years later.

2)  Yes, you've sold out the arena which is certainly a positive.  I would suggest to you that Creighton will have at least as many season ticket holders as Nebraska this year though and CU's overall attendance will certainly be higher.  Is it true that upper bowl tickets at your new arena were only $4 per game?  If so, that is a remarkable bargain and if they couldn't sell out with that steal of a deal, they probably should have never moved the program out of Devaney.

3) You said, "Which team has had multiple articles written about them this summer by national writers?"  For this one, I can only assume that you are more of a football fan that follows basketball secondarily.  I say that because one would be hard pressed to find many articles this "summer by national writers" that did not mention Doug McDermott and Creighton.  You may be getting more coverage than you did the past few years, but you are getting nowhere near the national publicity that Creighton is getting merely due to the fact that Creighton has a returning all-american and preseaon candidate for POY on its roster.

5) I haven't counted, but I will take your word for it as to the number of sweet sixteen participants that you have coming to your arena.  I don't understand however, how that makes Nebraska a better team.  It sounds more like you are boasting about the accomplishments of your opponents than about your own team's accomplishments.  If you wish to compare however, depending how the MTE schedule turns out, Creighton could play 8 NCAA tourney teams from last year in just the noncon, with another several occurring in the conference schedule.  Plus, Creighton knows that every Big East team will be playing in Omaha as the league has a double round robin schedule.

I completely understand your enthusiasm.  I do believe, however, you are letting preseason excitement, which comes in a time in which there are zero results yet, is causing you to make some hyperbolic statements. I suspect that those statements derive more from a certain ignorance about the state of the Creighton program rather than from a well researched analysis.  Frankly, I think you worry too much about Creighton in your posts and really should focus more on your program itself.  Either way, I wish you the best of luck this season (except for a certain game in Omaha, which will certainly be a sellout).

I have one question....where are you finding 8 NCAA teams in your non-conference schedule?  Are you assuming you play every single team in the Wooden Classic?  I'm simply not finding 8 teams in your non-conference that made the tourney.  Maybe I'm wrong...help me out here.

I ran into a Creighton booster the other day who really thinks the conference switch is going to be a big boost to Creighton's recruiting.  He believes conference affiliation will get Creighton's foot in the door with players they would only have dreamed about in the past.  He thinks this was a very good move for them and will only be beneficial to their hoops program long-term.  He thinks they'll generally be among the upper tier of the new conference.

Yes, he was serious.

Conference affiliation might help them with name recognition in recruiting but it'll also ratchet up the caliber of competition.  So, that's  a double-edged sword.  Be interesting to see how it pans out.  He could be right.  He could be wrong.  Time will tell.  But I'm not betting on Creighton's recruiting improving dramatically any time soon.

Any thoughts?

If they plan to have success in a league that contains more than one or two decent programs, they'd better plan on dumping their mid-major coach pretty soon...

It will help land kids who didn't want to play in the MVC because it wasn't a BCS school.

It might also lead to this feeling down the road.

Things for this year couldn't have worked out better. Doug comes back, Gibbs gets a 27th year, Stevens bolts for the NBA and then their top player input for the year.

The thing is....it's not really a "high major" conference still. No Lou, ND, Pitt, Syr, UCONN....the "big boys" of the Big East. It may be named the Big East but I'm guessing its a 6-7th best conference behind the ACC, B10, B12, SEC, MWC, PAC 12.

Still isn't a BCS league.   More like a Mountain West type league.

Not even at that level, IMO.

More like A-10 quality.

The SEC sucks FWIW.

LOL  The insecurities over there are hilarious.     It is comical to check in on every once in a while.  Speaking of delusional, the thoughts they have about the quality of their mediocre league.  Big East in name only.  Trading Louisville, Syracuse, Pitt, ND, Uconn and Cincy for these little piss ant mid major programs is awesome.  It is a complete embarrassment to the Big East name.  Sad that all of the tradition of what was a great league is tarnished by this new shitty Big East.

I didn't want to poison the Pinnacle Bank Arena thread with this, so I'll stick it here.  It seems that some folks are just soooo unimpressed with Lincoln's new arena they just have to post about it.

Just got done reading the thread....hilarious.  They all bitch about the OWH yet they can't put down the paper.  I guess some will never learn that Nebraska athletics was, is, and always will be what drives this state.

Wow, the bluejay underground thread linked in this thread is unbelievable.  Trashing PBA, talking about how Nebraska fans are dumb because they think playing in the big ten will help recruiting (lol what?  take a look in the mirror), etc. in a thread called "Delusional" is absolutely hilarious.  You can't get more ironic than that.

probably even more ironic is the fact it's currently the most active thread on that board...they all LOVE watching husker football, apparently.
