hhcmatt Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 Looking forward to Morrow dunking on and blocking the shots of people rated higher than him Silverbacked1 and Norm Peterson 2 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 so he basically stayed the same as I believe he was 103 and is now at 105. I dont see how he didnt move up at all. No, I think he remained at 105 (and I agree, not sure how he didn't move up.) I think Watson might have jumped up a couple of rungs on the ladder. As I mentioned in the other thread, Alex Illikainen almost dropped out. Not sure what that was all about. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 Okay how can you be 105 in one and 51 in another. That is why I don't think these guys have a clue, yet we worry and wring our hands to see what some kids number or stars are. The only job better than this for free money is weatherman. Quote

Obviously guys not on there become great college players and vice versa. Being on that list is a lot more important than exactly where you are on it. Quote

Obviously guys not on there become great college players and vice versa. Being on that list is a lot more important than exactly where you are on it. I'd guess the higher up you are on any nationally reputable list, the more likely you do well in college ball. No guarantees either direction -- some guys bust; some blossom. But I'll take the #51 player on ESPN's list and figure that I probably got just as good of a kid as the #51 player on Rivals' list. Morrow has a composite score between the two rankings of 78. Watson has a composite of 76.5. I feel pretty damn good about both of them. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted May 7, 2015 Report Posted May 7, 2015 Man, I love reading stuff like this. The question is: Now that the 2015 class rankings are finalized, and given that this is a team effort, who are one or two players you feel may overachieve relative to their ranking as their careers progress? Brian Snow: For me, I look at a kid like Ed Morrow and I just feel like he is someone who is going to have a really good college career have people look back at us and ask why we didn't put him in the top 100. Morrow is a near-elite athlete with a tremendous motor, and has a ton of toughness. There is no denying he is a bit undersized, but I see his will and desire making up for it, and him being a very productive college player in the Big Ten. http://scouthoops.scout.com/story/1544682-roundtable-sleeper-projections#/story/1544682-roundtable-sleeper-projections Quote
Norm Peterson Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 For comparison purposes. Last year, 2014, the Rivals #103 player was a 6'7" forward from Chicago, Illinois who signed with Northwestern by the name of Vic Law. (He's the closest 4-star forward from the '14 class to what Ed Morrow is ranked in this year's class.) This year, in his freshman season at Northwestern, Vic played 24.4 minutes/game and averaged 7 points and 4.8 rebounds. If Ed comes in and gives us 24 minutes, 7 points and 5 boards right off the bat, I'll be more than satisfied. Quote
NUdiehard Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 I envision Morrow as a smaller version of Tristan Thompson. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 I envision Morrow as a smaller version of Tristan Thompson. And he might not be that much smaller when all is said and done. Quote
NUdiehard Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 I envision Morrow as a smaller version of Tristan Thompson. And he might not be that much smaller when all is said and done. Based on the video we have seen and the pictures of Ed, I do not believe he is 6'7 1/2 in bare feet as he said he is in an interview. If he was legitimately that tall, he would easily be listed as 6'9" on the NU roster, and I just don't think he is close to that. He looks much closer to 6'6" in bare feet and 6'7" in shoes. Of course I am just going off pictures and videos and estimating from there. Edit Update: Draft Express states that Tristan Thompson measured at 6'7 1/2 inches w/o shoes and 6'8.75 inches in shoes. He is listed as 6'9" on the Cavs roster. If Morrow was truly 6'7 1/2 inches w/o shoes as he claims, then he is exactly the same height as Tristan. When I see Morrow on video, he just does not look as tall at Tristan to me. Quote

hhcmatt Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 Are there any 40 page concerns on a signed player? Quote
colhusker Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 Technically we are not there yet, but I will do my part to get us there! Quote

jimmykc Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 Do his knees bend the right way? Does he have hair on his legs or a Notre Dame poster in his basement? Does Mark Kreuger have more in common with Bob Ley or Ed McMahon? Just doing my job in chugging toward 40. bobcat402 and Silverbacked1 2 Quote
AuroranHusker Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 I envision Morrow as a smaller version of Tristan Thompson. And he might not be that much smaller when all is said and done.Is Morrow still growing? I recall reading that Morrow had grown roughly an 1' to an 1 1/2" in the past year or so. It would not be unheard of to grow more in college. Sam Dekker at Wisconsin grew quite a bit between his SOPH yr & his JR yr to be 6'-9" in his final yr at UW. Perhaps Ed will follow with growing from 6'-7" to 6'-9" while at Nebraska... Quote

FredsSlacks Posted May 9, 2015 Report Posted May 9, 2015 from pictures and videos i've seen over the last year, it doesn't seem like he's grown much at all. I will say that 6'8 would be the very tallest he ends up at. Quote

I will say that 6'8 would be the very tallest he ends up at. Guess we'll see how tall he grows in college, it's not unprecedented to grow some. Ed has clearly filled out both in height & girth, ever so incrementally... Looking forward to 4 yrs of young Morrow as a Husker, no matter how tall he is or will be. GBR! Quote
Norm Peterson Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Not sure it makes a difference whether he grows another inch or not. His motor is like 7'3". Highly rated guys several inches taller than him have had their hands full playing him. He might not look that tall to some, but he sure plays tall. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 Are there any 40 page concerns on a signed player? Dimes, this is uncharted territory with a signed recruit. We just don't know what might happen. It's like back in the days of the Manhattan Project when they were getting ready to test the first nuclear bomb. The scientists on the project were taking bets as to whether the chain reaction started by the nuclear blast would be infinite and unstoppable and end life on earth. I took the unders back then; I'm going to take the unders on this one, too. Quote
jimmykc Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 Jerome Layne (of "Send it in Jerome" fame) entered Pitt as a 6'6", 170 # freshman and left as a 6'6" 230# senior who led the nation in rebounds. Not saying Morrow will do the same, but just making the point that we sometimes put too much emphasis on a couple of inches (and I know I'm setting this up for the comment which is bound to follow). 49r 1 Quote
