You've eliminated just about everyone from answering seriously with the qualifiers of:

-- attended the game

AND

-- recall

I'm out on both counts. I have a mind like a steel trap. Once something gets in there I can't get it back out. :)

Well, I went back to the old HHC and looked at the archived threads.  We wuz not happy campers but our head coach was ecstatic to pull out a 1 pt win against a no-name (at the time) foe at home by hitting a last-second shot to come from behind.  Oh, and we got Runzas.

Yeah, people were not happy.  I don't think we gave Florida Gulf Coast much credit even though they'd been in every game they'd played.  And they were obviously better than we thought.

And, in spite of how badly we thought we'd played at the time, they still didn't get a grade of F.

So, we're justifying a close game early last year vs. FGCU because they're in the Sweet 16 this year as a #15 seed?  Guys this is a miracle run for this team.  And, btw, they went 15-17 last year, it really shouldn't have been a game we needed to come from behind to win.

I don't think anyone is trying to justify anything.  It's just interesting that this no name team that we played at the Devaney last season is now America's team.  Nothing more and nothing less

Who exactly is justifying anything?  I didn't read that (or write it.)

...and to further clarify my point:

1)  I know I was at the game, cause I simply do not miss games.

2)  It must not have been considered an epic game, cause I have zero recollection of it

3)  I only assumed that the dungeon (and probably other boards) blew up, cause it was a 1-point win against a new and, at that time, no-name opponent.  And if Doc was happy with a one-point win, that my friends would have created additional angst.

...just saying.

I was at the game and the one thing that really stands out to me is that their big man got ejected for throwing an elbow or something.  Remember there being a long stoppage and nobody knew what was going on and then they announced a player being ejected.

I also wasn't somebody who was overly concerned about the narrow win mainly because FGCU played everybody tight.  They play about every defense in the book in a game and it really causes problems.

And, to further clarify MY point, even in that last second, come from behind, 1 point win by what was then considered Doc's most talented team, with a complete bench and high expectations for the season, against a relative unknown, and with the fans grumbling and unhappy, especially with the way the 6th year coach described himself as ecstatic afterwards, EVEN THEN they didn't grade out at an F. I mean, if there was EVER a time where the team deserved an F after a win, that was probably the time. But no F was given for that game.

Ok I think I remember that someone got ejected now that it's been brought up....still 50/50 chance I was at the game. I had a ticket, but I don't know if I actually made it or not.

Gee I wonder how Miami fans feel. Think they feel justified that their team actually lost to this no name team this year? At least Doc can beat em B)

I had my grandson with me and we got to sit down low 8 or 10 rows behind the team...due to lack of fans.

My primary recollection was the freshman point guard who made numerous no look attempts at passes...but with some not so good results at times (in looking up the box score he had 5 assists and 5 turnovers). He was fun to watch but trying to do too much at times...

In the tournament games this year, it is obvious he is way more used to playing with his teammates and the cohesiveness of the group has advanced substantially with the year and a half of togetherness.

So athleticism has been melded with teamwork. Let's hope we make that much advancement in the next year and a half.

I guarantee we were not thrilled with the play of the Huskers against these unknowns....but we did eat Runzas the next day!

I was there and it was painful. I thought I still had the sheet of information on the players but it must be buried on an external somewhere. I remember calling Sherwood Brown a wanna-be predator while he sat on the bench.

The thing that I remember most is that unlike the usual non-conf game against "cupcakes" where the visitors seem very timid, the FGCU players were very serious and wouldn't joke around with us. It almost felt like a conference game in the Big 12. After the game the players were obviously very disappointed (and for good reason, they had us dead to rights). I walked out of there feeling like we had played like dogshit and dodged a huge bullet, but after seeing what they're capable of just a year later I'm not so surprised anymore.

In this thread, perhaps nobody, but there's been that implication since Sunday through various outlets, or at least that's how I've perceived it at times.

My question was purely out of curiosity since I didn't attend the game.  Wasn't trying to justify a close loss to a 'perceived' lesser opponent.  What irks me at times is when people expect us to win these games handily just because we are Nebraska, we are in the Big 12 or Big 10, blah blah blah....  Were we really that much better than FGCU last season?  We were more experienced, but maybe not much else.

Also, these kids on the opposing teams expect to win and are no longer afraid of the big boys.  Yes, FGCU is a different team than they were last season and they are on a helluva run, but they have also proven they are a formidable opponent for anyone left in front of them.  Do I expect them to beat Florida?  No, they very well could get blown out, but it has been fun watching the little guy have his day in the son once again.
