Of course, you can't.   And you won't.   Even when the University makes it's own spend in the near future, you won't hear what each individual player is getting.  Not sure if we'll even know how the roughly $22 million is allocated among the programs.   And feel free to be skeptical about what you see thrown around on message boards, because a lot of it is indeed wrong.  But sometimes the info comes from people close to Fred, or the donors, or the NIL leaders, and is pretty accurate.  Hard for the reader to parse out who might be just throwing out inaccurate hearsay, and those who know some stuff.

I believe yes.   Things have been changing  dramatically with NIL over the past couple of years.  Prices escalated substantially.   Last portal season that happened to a large degree in just the few weeks of the portal season.  That is, from the time Gary and Williams signed their deals, to the time Meah and Berke were signed.  Agents were figuring out leverage, and perceived desperation drives up prices.

Speaking of Nebraska kids, seems like we could have landed Fidler or Tonje for Meah money. Hopefully we learned the lesson.

 

Also if we can turn Frager or Bolis into viable rotation pieces that's a big value save over free agents

Moneyball for college basketball. Pay proven pieces, find cheap production. For a team that can’t spend like the Yankees (or Duke) playing big money for guys like Meah isn’t a luxury we have. I know it won’t translate as well to the B1G, but watching conf tournaments this weekend - it was crazy how many all conf guys teams like Drake and UC San Diego have that were plucked from D2 - I’m sure they came fairly cheap too.

Here is a naive question.  The media (and others) can compel salary information on coaches, professors, and the like as it is supposedly public information.  Why doesn't the same hold true for the athletes?  Are they not employees of the university?  I also assume they are also eligible for various other employee benefits.

Student athletes at private schools have the ability to unionize, as found by the ruling in favor of Dartmouth College. This doesn't apply to public schools.

If not regulation, certainly there has to be a point where businesses, universities, and individuals find the ROI just isn't there at these levels of spending. You'd imagine, whether regulated or not, that some form of "right-sizing" would occur at some point.

NU definitely knows he's out there. However to date it appears his offers have all been from the D2 level.

At this point the university isn't paying athletes; 1890 is.
