This has all the feelings of the year after we danced with Miles. Started off with a bang, beat CU in the non-con, took a complete nose dive after Christmas.

I take this back— I’m mixing up the year after we danced with Copelands Sr year.

Crazy how things can change it two weeks.  Things were fun and we were looking at potential tourney matchups, to what the heck is going on with this team and the defense.  Lots of opportunities left, but this team is broken right now.  Fred needs to figure out something fast or a season that looked promising will turn into a big disappointment.

I know the Purdue game was bad, and can see how that's adding far more concern than before that game was played.

But 2 of our last 3 games were decided by 1-score or less.

Sure, there's a number of areas the team is going to have to work on. But are we really that broken?

Feels like this board thinks we won't even qualify for the third grade girls YMCA tournament at this point.

I have two humble concerns:

1) We have threads discussing post-season, and while fun when we are winning, seem somewhat pompous when you are in the midst of a three game losing streak.  We have to fix ourselves and start winning, including on the road, before we should be mentioning playoffs.

2) Our defense is broken.  If we are not seeing that, we are turning a blind eye.  Hopefully our staff sees the issues and can adjust the scheme.  Hey, if the team is slow, then you darn well better be physical.

Maybe not broken but being 0-3 in a stretch where we are *that* close to being 2-1 can also be the difference in being in the tournament and not. We will now really need to do some work on the road to compensate for this Q3 home loss.

However there are some more troubling things going on than just "we lost a couple close games"...

-In the month of January our effective field goal defense % ranks 356 out of 364. Our 2pt % defense is 342. Our 3pt % defense is 352. Simply put our opponents are finding it very easy right now to make shots against us.

-We blew a 15-point second half lead against a mediocre team.

-We didn't compete at all in our next game after that.

-We came home to a place we always win at and blew a 76-72 lead with 4:30 left with the ball getting two possessions basically and coming up empty. Two minutes later we were down 81-76.

There is plenty of time left, but our margin of error just got extremely thin. We are big underdogs in 4 of our next 5 games and with the way USC is playing right now, that is no gimme. We are staring at 3-8 or 2-9 in the Big Ten unless we get our **** together. Last night was one that was supposed to be a win.

As bad as we’ve played the last 3, if the tournament were to start today, we’d be firmly on the bubble and likely in. So I slightly disagree with this point. The goal absolutely should be to Dance for this team — especially with the season we’ve had so far.

We absolutely need to fix things and start winning. But it’s not pompous to talk about a team who should be dancing and frankly has done the work to give themselves the opportunity to dance.

I guess that as long as the team isn't thinking about it, it is fine.  The team needs to focus on the game at hand.  Hearing that Rutgers "wanted it more" is a tad troubling.
