Is anyone checking out Nebraska recruits/prospects at the state tournament this week?

I watched the two class A games last night:

- Kennedi Williams: Quick first step and good ball handler, but her 3 point shooting seems inconsistent and she had a lot of trouble finishing in the lane. I think she can contribute a bit, but will never be a top tier starting player for a good team in the Big Ten.

- Very interesting prospect for the future: Addison Medeck at PLSHS…she’s very athletic for a 6’3” freshman and has tons of potential. She reminded me of an unpolished version of Jordan Hooper when she was a freshman at Alliance.

Addison Medeck   found this....watch some of the videos.   Double doubles...Definite prospect. Have to believe she's on some college radars.  Just a freshman, and has good skills.....keep that in mind. 6-3 though makes up for a lot...maybe she's still growing ??

Hope she gets lot's of club ball through high school.

Here's a question sort of out of the blue.  Why doesn't Nebraska allow 7th and 8th graders to compete on HS teams?  It would greatly help smaller schools out, but it could also help out larger schools.  When I was a senior in HS (many years ago, small school), we literally had 7 girls out for HS basketball.  When my daughter was in HS (class A school), they were short on players and many played on 3 teams (varsity, reserve, and I can't remember the other names of the levels but there were 4 total and kids pulled at least double duty so the school would have enough to play).  And here's another thing - add the damn shot clock.

The shot clock will be in all classes next season.

I could be wrong, but think Nebraska athletic rules say 7 & 8 are considered middle school, so  are not high school 9-12.

So 7 & 8 are simply not eligible for any sport.  Not just girls as I understand it.

That's correct. I know Louisiana has 7-12 eligible for H.S. sports. Which is kind of weird...

In Nebraska there is varsity, jr. varsity, reserve, and often grade-specific teams & of course intramurals to have as many kids compete in basketball as possible. I kind of like it like that, tbh. Expose kids to competition helps them develop a sense of teamwork and community beyond the bounds of a school itself.

Plan on going to watch Prince tonight. Was thinking the same thing on Williams, at 5'3" she could be in trouble in the paint. Much like Hake is at times. Williams is going to need to be a role player at the next level.

Assuming Elk. N. wins tonight, I'm going to try to hit up their 3:15 pm game tomorrow if I can swing it... Prince is a baller, no doubt. Tomorrow against a #3 Norris squad might be more of a challenge than tonight, but one never knows who has a hot hand with the 3-ball. It was E.N. vs Skutt last year in the finals, but it was somewhat close for a little while. Prince just generally dominates Class B.

Excellent news for development of more college-level athletes, tbh.

After watching the lower class girls at State Tourney, the shot clock could be a disaster.  I can see plenty of desperation threes being cast up at the last 2nd.  The clock is going to be a nightmare for small schools finding competent personnel to run the clock and adding another headache for referees to administer.

I wasn't necessarily referring to lower-level schools when making my comment. I'm talking about good players on relatively good teams getting to showcase their skills in front of college recruiting staffs. They can see them compete with a shot clock, it's a good thing overall for the players who aspire to play at the next level, no matter which level that may be.

Interesting tournament.  Some good players in A & B.  Watching South Sioux City get mercy-ruled @ state tells a story though.  Quite the disparity between the top four or five teams in class B and everyone else.  🤔

I remember the glory years of the Kelly Flynn coached SSC teams and lordy, what a vast difference.

Well, Beatrice decided to beat #3 Norris tonight, 50-49. Elkhorn North vs Beatrice tomorrow at 3:15 pm.

Prince is definitely the best perimeter player to come out of Nebraska on the girls side for at least 15-20 years from my perspective, if not the best ever. She scored 33 tonight and only made about 2/7 of her 3-pt shots. She could have easily had 40 and also had 10+ rebounds and 6-8 assists.

Prince now has 2,453 career points, and is 2nd all-time in NSAA tournament scoring (yet 299 pts behind 1st).

I was there too and thought that I was paying attention.  Which is contradicted by these two facts: 1) I thought she was having a "good not great" game.  Kept waiting for her to do something spectacular and only once she did. 2) then i looked at the score sheet and saw that she had 33 points (in a 32 minute game) and a ton of rebounds.  WtH was I expecting?  She was tirelessly and competently guarded full court by Scottsbluff #34 which cut down on her trademark long passes. She is gem!  How she stands up to the physical play in the Big 10 is a question.

Britt did not have her best game last night. Yet still had 33 points. She is the best player the last two and maybe 3 years in Nebraska. Plus she also handles herself well. You Tube has a few post game interviews with her and the press after the game. Hope we see 4 years of her in the scarlet and cream.

She's the best in Nebraska in at least 10-15 years, I'd imagine. She will be the real deal in Lincoln. GBR
