Who cares what the general population thinks if the people that hire coaches in the NBA like you.

I don't have to listen to/read NBA GM's bad takes. TLue is going to have coaching opportunities and make craploads of money for years to come no matter what he does this offseason. I'm not worried about that. I just hate the narrative that's growing, among talking heads/basketball fans, that Lue is just LeBron's puppet.

According to ESPN Lue turns down 5-year deal with the Lakers, WOW ? .... Interested in hearing the details about this, Magic “no call” to LeBron & the other sordid events of this ongoing circus. James is a pox on the Franchise, come back Jerry West!

You hit on the key term when mentioning the Lakers.  Magic left for a reason.  I am extremely glad that Lue turned down this "opportunity" yet with the play money that is available, I wouldn't rule out anything yet.

Thank Zeus. Short-term, the money in LA would've been good. But I think long-term, his resume will look better having avoided LBJ/LA.

And TLue's public perception can definitely use the rehab in the meantime. Hopefully he'll come out the other side with a better job opportunity that'll legitimize his coaching ability.

Lue turned down an offered 3-year deal, which coincides with LeBron.

Tyronn & his team wanted a 5-year deal.

According to Stephen A (loudmouth) Smith the Lakers were wowed by Jason Kidd during his interview and wanted Lue to take him on as an assistant. Lue wanted no part of that, but it sounds like this “deal” is far from over.

The Lakers are no longer the "Lake Show" of winning basketball, they've traversed to become more "style" than substance. I like J. Kidd, he'd be good for a bit more disciplined point guard play in LA.

That’s assuming they HAD a point guard. Lonzo shoots 50% from the stripe, I could literally do that blindfolded.

The Lakers can't just buy stars anymore thanks to the salary cap. You still get guys who want to live in LA, but that's about it.

You need to have a competent front office and that's not what any of the Buss kids are doing.

Good on Lue to walk away if the Lakers aren't going to give him what he's worth.

We should just turn this in to an NBA thread ??? i love the NBA and meant to start one but forgot. A lot of interesting things going on in the playoffs. As well as some non-playoff teams.

Lakers were also only offering $6MM/year.  A championship-winning coach is getting $7-10MM/year on a 5 year deal in the NBA these days, especially in a major market.  These are the same contract terms ($18MM/3 years) that the Bucks extended Jason Kidd on a couple years ago.  Lue was getting $7MM/year from Cleveland and it's at least partially guaranteed.

The Cavs still owe Lue 10M, I’m not sure who the front office thinks is going to take on the job of kissing LeBron’s a**, massaging a limited roster, and doing it ALL under the bright lights of La La land...

On top of that they told him to hire Kidd on his staff, basically giving them a potential replacement if they wanted to can him in the middle of a season. Lakers are a sh*tshow of a franchise right now.

Hitting the bar in the morning, eh? ?

That’s what being a Lakers fan will do to you...

At least the Sixers had "The Process" to attain high-level talent, Lake Show doesn't have a rudder... and, yeah, it's probably a blessing in disguise that Tyronn Lue isn't the leading candidate any more.
