rwmctrofholz Posted December 10, 2018 Report Posted December 10, 2018 Texas Tech gets Duke at home on the 20th. Would like to see them win for Nebraska's sake. As the Red Kettle bell ringers say, "Every little bit helps." Quote
hhctony Posted December 10, 2018 Report Posted December 10, 2018 (edited) The game really has changed. Go look at any shot chart now. There are very few 12-18 foot jump shots even attempted, let alone made. Drive and attack the basket, score in the post or take threes (and hope to make a 35-40% clip). That's how college basketball is now. I am not smart enough to post Nebraska's shot chart on Saturday but it's similar. Go look at any Gonzaga or Duke game as well. Old man me gets pretty grumpy (and im not even 30 yet) I embrace the 3. specialists are even fine. But it's not a fun viewing experience for me to see guys jacking up shots from inefficient areas of the court near half court, Lamelo ball style. ugh I can certainly get behind not liking it. I have been critical of this staff at times, but one thing I do like is then trying to embrace the analytics. While I don’t think we are great at developing shooting, which has hindered our ability to use the line to our benefit on offense, it is extremely important that we revamped our d to be better(even damn good) at defending the line. Moving the line back is just a gateway drug for half court shots! But in reality it does change the game a bit. It likely limits outside shot opportunities and clogs up the key to force longer two point shots. Or, if you have an effective offense then you can stretch out the defense a little more. Quote
hhcmatt Posted December 10, 2018 Report Posted December 10, 2018 Just a matter of time before they move the 3 back to FIBA or NBA range Current: 20.75 ft FIBA 22.15 ft - 21.65 ft in corner NBA 23.75 ft - 22 ft in corner Quote

Since the game started the athletes have gotten much much bigger faster stronger, etc. The only real solution, IMO, would be to make the court wider and longer and the rim higher. But since that's not going to happen, there isn't much to do but accept the fact that the game is all about the 3 point shot now. Quote

If it’s not, you run out of real estate. There has to be some floorspace in between the out of bounds and the three point line so that a player can catch, get his feet set, and shoot the ball. The width of the floor determines that, at some point, you have to square off the three-point arc. Quote

It would make a lot of sense to change the distance to 22' (or close to that, like say 21'-9" or something). Quote

Big fan of the analytics myself. Even some morey ball(rockets fan here). I suppose it comes down to personnel; on very rare occasion will a collection of players be right for that approach, particularly college kids. The professionals are a different story imo. But yeah, you make good points across the board man, I am definitely not critical of the coaching staff even if I always see room for change in any basketball staff. Really impressed with Tim showing some versatility in getting this team back on track to an elite defense. Excited where this takes us. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted December 11, 2018 Report Posted December 11, 2018 ...or you could bring the big man back into the game and make the lane narrower (LOL or not call the 3 second rule) and eliminate the three point shot. I know, that will NEVER happen. Quote
