hhcmatt Posted February 12, 2018 Report Posted February 12, 2018 They're probably a pre-season all B1G injury from being a tourney team. They're 1-7 in true road games...it's a young team so that's not surprising. A lot of offensive firepower between Cowen, Huerter, and Fernando and both Cowen and Huerter can either drive or shoot from 3. Defense has been suspect in conference. They turn the ball over a bunch and teams are burning them from 3. On the flip side they don't put people on the line a lot though that is typically a stat that corresponds with a loss for them....we need to get to the line. Quote

Handy Johnson Posted February 12, 2018 Report Posted February 12, 2018 Thank GOD Melo' Trimble is finally gone. He was like the Jess Settles of Maryland. Quote
throwback Posted February 12, 2018 Report Posted February 12, 2018 (edited) Considering how Minny's guards gave us fits last week, Cowen is going to be a handful - he is having a great season. Will be interesting to see if we start big against him with Gill/Taylor or small with Glynn/Allen - I'm guessing eventually they'll all get a chance. And Fernando is such a hot/cold player, hopefully we can find a way to keep him on the cold side. It'll help if we can keep him from getting a couple of blocks early, as those seem to get him revved up. Huerter is going to get his, just try to keep the other 2 in check somewhat, and we'll be fine. Edited February 12, 2018 by throwback Quote
hhcmatt Posted February 12, 2018 Author Report Posted February 12, 2018 If you consider Huerter a guard, Maryland rolls out a 4 guard lineup. Quote

Have not watched much of Maryland this year but looking at their last couple box scores...depth is not something they have. If we get some whistle happy refs or jump on them early I feel this may be a comfortable win for us. Quote
AuroranHusker Posted February 12, 2018 Report Posted February 12, 2018 Maryland is very hot or very cold shooting the three-ball. It could literally go either way depending on if they're "on" or not. Quote

How do you think we’ll match up with them defensively? I know we are athletic and are able to switch a lot but if it’s a 4 guard lineup it could give us trouble, having to put Cope on Huerter or something like that. Quote
big red22 Posted February 12, 2018 Report Posted February 12, 2018 (edited) This is the way I see it... Murphy and Mason had their best games of the year against us. Mason went 7-9 from three land, and Murphy was hitting just about everything he threw up. We were on the road in a hostel environment, and we still didn't sweat it. Huerter and Cowan may be pretty dynamic, but I find it hard to believe they are going to come into PBA and put up better than 34 and 22 against us. Maryland is 1-7 on the road in conference. We have lost to one team in PBA and that was a last second shot loss to Kansas a 2 seed in the tournament. Nebraska is as deep as I have ever seen, and they can lose as many as 3 starters to foul trouble and still be able to produce offense. When was the last time we could say that? Example: Against @Wisconsin we had Roby, Copeland and Tshimanga out with 4 fouls with 10 minutes left to go in the and we still finish the game on a 30-8 rally. We should win this game if we show up to play without a doubt! Edited February 12, 2018 by big red22 tcp 1 Quote

Copeland can stay with Huerter and has the length to give him problems. The thing to worry about is how much we can slow down guys like Fernando and Cekovsky one-on-one without Roby fouling out. BTW here is an older shot chart for Huerter and Cowan. Looks like keeping Huerter off the right side of the court is key GBR1197 and tcp 1 1 Quote
