    Dylan Talley

I have been wanting to make this post for two months but didn't want to jinx him, so I waited until a point in the season where its too late to jinx! First of all, I want to say that I am very, very impressed and very, very proud of how Talley has played this season. He has stepped his game up in much the same fashion as Lance Jeter a few years back - I really feel he's a completely different player from last year and much improved. Most of that is because he's (as far as I can tell) 100% healthy this season. Afterall, he's able to play essentially 40 minutes a game and run the point, be our best perimeter rebounder, leading scorer, etc, etc. He is also the leader of this team (along with Ubel). What I want to say/ask is - how in the world is he able to be 100% healthy last year when we heard Doc say at least 3-4 times a month he had "chronically bad feet" and will "never be 100% while he's here." He seemed very limited last year and all we heard was how injury plagued he was. How have we NEVER heard even a PEEP about that this year? Did he miracously recover? Does Miles practice different? Is he training different? Or did Doc just overblow it? I just was wondering if anyone else noticed the lack of injury to Talley this year and how we haven't heard a single mention of it, when I swear it seemed like we heard it bi-weekly last season. Anyone else find this odd (in a good way)?

  2. I would have to disagree with that. So, on what basis would you know if he didn't... I'm kind of tired of people bagging on Ubel, he's trying but he's not succeeding. I'm not bagging on Ubel as that is a pretty bold statement to say that he played his guts out. It wasn't his best game but know he still tried hard but wouldn't catagorize his effort as playing his guts out. It's not bold, in my opinion; I grew tired of all the piling on. Just because the results aren't pleasing doesn't mean the kid isn't trying his best, i.e. playing his guts out. Ubel has given everything he's got for this program over the years, I think it's time to respect his contributions for the good he's brought to the team. Ubel & Talley will be playing their final home game in a few days, and they deserve a rousing ovation.

  3. I had a request for KU at NU from 1991-92. I've not found it in the collection yet, but you can see the most compelling highlights from that game at the top of the broadcast in this game. This is the next visit by the Jayhawks to the BDSC. Enjoy

  4. Why isn't Three Dog Night in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Because they were only relevant for about five years. Stunningly similar to the Nebraska Basketball program.

  5. Two questions How many minutes a game did David Rivers last year? Who will have more practices under their belts in Nebraska's offense coming into next year: Petteway or all three freshmen combined?

  6. I've always said that I don't think we'll be any better next year unless we somehow get an impact big man in this class, and I do not believe Atewe would be an impact big man right away. We may have more talent next year, but as of now we are going to be a very small team and have little experience.

  7. ..cip's off in the real world today doing real things, and so I'm pinch-hitting for him, hence "The Stranger". Despite some of the darker aspects of the lyrics, I'm looking today for a bit of "The Stranger" in the 'Skers. I want to see an Brandon Ubel that can get some scoring opportunities down on the blocks. I want to see Dylan Talley pull up for that 10 foot jumper instead of getting a charge. I want to see Gallegos get loose from behind the arc, and I want to see Shavon go off for at least 20. Well, we all have a face that we hide away forever And we take them out and show ourselves when everyone has gone. Some are satin, some are steel, Some are silk and some are leather. They're the faces of a stranger, But we'd love to try them on. Go Big Red!

Doc was skilled at weaving a compelling tale of woe.

  10. Jess Shepard projects to be a way better player than Ashley Adams. She just broke Maurtice Ivy's 25-year old tournament scoring record for Class A as a sophomore (81 points in 3 games)! And thats after having already broken the season scoring record at a high school that has dominated girls basketball in Nebraska since the 80's. She's the best sophomore I've ever seen in Class A, and I think she's ahead of where Jordan Hooper and Katie Robinette were at this point in their careers. It's true she doesn't have blazing foot speed, but how many 6'3" 16-year olds are going to look fast playing on the perimeter in the Class A title game? The fact that she's the primary ballhandler at her size is incredible! Outside of Kastanek, Southeast's team was VERY limited in talent this year, and the fact that they won is a testament to how good Shepard is. She's their primary ballhandler, protects the paint, played all 32 minutes, and scored 26 points, 19 rebounds, probably 6-8 blocks, and 3-4 assists. That's probably the most dominant overall game I've seen in Class A, and Nebraska has produced some excellent girl's basketball players since I've been watching. She's a top 25 prospect in the class of 2015 and should go a long way towards easing the loss of Jordan Hooper in two years. Comparing her to Ashley Adams is a bit of a joke.
