    Shamiel Stevenson is N

      Huskers land 6'6" G/F transfer from Pitt/Nevada

Nebraska gets the verbal commit from the 230+ lb Stevenson who has made two moves already in his college career due to coaching changes.

“We are excited to add Shamiel to our program. He brings a lot of versatility and physicality to our roster. With his size, strength and wingspan, Shamiel fits in perfectly in our system with his ability to play several positions. He also possesses the toughness and maturity needed to play in the Big Ten.” - Coach Hoiberg

The former 3 star and prep school teammate of DeAndre Ayton chose Pittsburgh and coach Kevin Stallings out of high school.  Stevenson was a major contributor his freshman year, starting 13 games and averaging 8.7 ppg while shooting 37.5% from 3 and getting to the line at an impressive rate. (His FTR metric was comparable to James Palmer)

Stevenson stuck on with new coach Jeff Capel but was relegated to the end of the bench, seeing action in only 4 games. Shamiel decided to transfer mid-season and chose Nevada.  With former Wolfpack head coach Eric Mussleman leaving for Arkansas Stevenson decided to move on as well.  Currently he's eligible after the fall semester but will most likely pursue a waiver to become immediately eligible. After this season he should have two years remaining. With his size Stephenson looks to slot in defensively as a PF or Center in Fred Hoiberg's 'positionless' basketball team.

I think he is going to be a junior whether he plays now or at semester's end. The waiver is just for immediate eligibility. Thats atleast how I understand it.

That is how I see it as well. If he is immediately eligible he is a junior.

however If he is not eligible till second half I think they would have a case to get 2 more years after that since he has only played 1.5 seasons and has sat a whole season as redshirt transfer. That would give him 4 years of PT. Doubt they are exploring that but who knows.

I believe they're trying to argue last year should be a redshirt year. He only played in four games at Pitt before transfering to Nevada at semester. If the was cleared, he'd be a sophomore with three full years to play.

So if I start clicking this topic once every 30 seconds going forward instead of once a minute like I have been doing, will that increase the chances of a last-minute decision in the positive? I'm willing to wear out my computer buttons for the team if that's what it takes.

Whelp. This saga better end soon. NU needs a big body like Shamiel's to help with pounding the glass, and at least grab some defensive boards because the Huskers appeared to have quite a few slightly-built frames out there last night.

I think this is why they took their time filing for the waiver. I think they wouldve gotten it easily if they were fine with him classified as a junior. Much more concerned with getting him classified as a sophmore than playing in this years non con

Has anyone else said this? Is there any chance he misunderstood this?

Robin just posted an article mentioning the waiver is still pending, but no mention of this.
