Petteway signs with the Atlanta Hawks

TP5 made the most of his playing time during the NBA summer league to score two year partially guaranteed contract with the Hawks. He will still need to compete to make the roster for a team in need of wing depth.

No matter what you may think of Mr. Barnes, this tweet is gold: ( especially w/ 'final 4' as the "FINAL FOUR" :D )

    And another, for good measure:

I always watch as much summer league as possible and I'm enjoying it more this year, not only to see what the Blazers are trying to do with all the young guys they've acquired (Tim Frazier looks really, really good), but watching the Hawks. Tonight TP looked really comfortable in the offense (as much as it exists in summer league), hit a couple of nice jumpers off the dribble going to his right but he also went to his left a few times and dished the ball to a guy cutting to the hoop. Defensively he's looked good, too. He wasn't perfect but he was always making an effort to be in the right position and finding his man to box out when a shot went up. I like his chances right now.

He got screwed a bit in the box score on blocked shots I thought...he altered a few last night

Looking at his shooting percentage makes me wonder if he was just spent by all the minutes the last couple years.

When you're the sole player casting up shots at end of shot-clocks, I'd surmise that your FG percentage is naturally going to drop. Add extended minutes to the mix, and the shooting numbers will drop further...

... Petteway provided a spark for the Hawks in a losing effort, finishing with eight points, four rebounds and a team-high four assists.

During NBA Summer League, Petteway is averaging 9.3 points per game, along with 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Petteway and the Hawks will return to action on Wednesday...

I watched two of the re games this weekend. I see that TP liked to help, others get their shot, so I would say that seeing what he did for us and what he is trying to do for the Hawks is that he can and will/would have dished more. But we didn't have enough guys to hit that open shot or go to the hole, which kind of forced him to shoot so that we had a chance to win.

he's been really bad from the 3 pt line. otherwise he is playing about as well as he could have hoped.

i don't see him making an nba roster. it's going to either be d-league or play overseas.

there's guys in summer league that are averaging 20 pts per game that won't be making an nba team.

And good experience for TP down the line. Hope he stays at it, he could be a good Bruce Bowen-type in the future, IMHO.

    This.

He also took so very ill advised shots early in a possession that were clankers too.  I will agree he was the only at the end of the shot clock a lot, granted he kept the ball when the clock was running down too.

Aside from the obvious family issues, I still don't fully understand the logic behind him declaring for the draft and leaving behind a chance to be a potential superstar in America's best basketball conference.

Best of luck to our guy but his journey to an NBA roster is going to be long and hard.

Because the NBA has little interest in first-year 24-year-olds.

What if there's still no hair on their legs?

petteway is only 22 right now.

delon wright was drafted 20th overall at age 23, and there were several 23 year olds drafted in the 2nd round.

Playing Miami tonight at 5 though not sure if Justice Winslow will be able to play after turning his ankle.

Greg Whittington, Travis Trice, Gabriel Olaseni, Rodney McGruder, and Shabazz Napier are some notables.

Gonna ask because I don't know so can or do teams sign a guy like Terran and then stock pile him in the D league? Are teams in the D league like minor league baseball but with two,or more teams co-running a D league team? Can teams help A player get signed in Europe so that they can get better so that they can sign them later. I know that you can't wait too long because the next year there is a whole new crop, but was just wondering. Or like when they need to cut somebody or they get hurt and might be out for a long period of time. Like the guys who get the cool ten day contract.
