I like this first "essential". It has a bit of humor and took my mind off football this Sunday morning. And I note the tempo will be "baseline to baseline". Bring it on, although beginning the season at one on a Sunday is not ideal.

Pretty much all the game observations have been made...so I've got a few arena observations/opinions (and these are just mine).

1. The Husker Power chant started but seemed to very weak (at least from where I was sitting) when the visiting team was introduced? Was this because the student section over by the band was pretty much empty until people started moving down?

2. Again this might have something to do with the student section being what it was. That music that play for the Husker intro...the fans didn't seem to get into it. I mean some did...and this might come in time...but It would be cool to see the Arena rock like Memorial stadium has done with the tunnel walk. It's the students energy that everyone else feeds off of. I was up in the 200 area doing the Husker Power with everyone else that was doing it..but I was pretty much the only one in my section that was.

3. What is it going to take to get this place rocking for every game. Better Competition? They play some patsys over at the stadium..but the fans still get pumped.

It's a little hard to compare to football, in my opinion. There are only seven home games per year in which most season ticket holders are paying well over $75 per ticket per game. In basketball, there are almost 20 home games in which most of us are paying less than $20 per ticket per game. By human nature it's a little easier to get amped up only a few times per year.

1. They are pumping in a lot of background music during the opposing lineups intro.  It's possible this is an attempt to quell the Husker Power chant

3. The crowd cheers to the competition level. Maybe one day we'll have such a tradition where fans are loud when paycheck teams come to town but expect it to be dead during the pre-conference except for Creighton and Cincinatti

it was a first time out for some of the new student section leaders I would think. They also along with the crowd and team will get better as the season goes on.

It would be almost embarrassing, IMO, to act like it's the Super Bowl when we're playing Northern Kentucky.

I think most people were more concerned with the Amazing Sladek and hoping he didn't break a hip getting down off all those chairs.

He was fun wasn't he. When he walked off at the end I told my wife you can almost hear him say," Sedlac is done remove the things from the floor." In what accent that you would think he has.

As for thinking that they might be trying to quell the husker power chant by playing loud music, I have to disagree. The cheerleaders are still using the signs for the husker power chant, and I would think that they would put an end to that first.

you'd think there'd be a statute of limitations on not having a yell squad. It was two people in the student section (and not the cheerleaders [although I'm sure you noticed that. ] that were doing the Husker Power thing at the last game...unfortunately the Husker part had to fall onto the non (they really need to hook caffeine IVs up to these people) students on the other side of the court..who didn't make a lot of noise. while the Power side hit the highly energetic student section behind the benches. This is just the way it's going to be until Creighton and then the Big 10.

While watching the ESPN tip-off marathon last night I noticed that Iowa State did a "Cyclone Power" chant right before tip-off of their game.

It wasn't during the player introductions for the opposing team, but still, felt a little dirty.
