My visit this week allowed me to delete the Purdue tape without watching it, and to put some of our angst in perspective. The Rochester paper thinks Pitino should go since all five players who have been dismissed or suspended for the year are his recruits and not holdovers, thus there may be some concerns on the "character" aspect of his recruiting. In addition there may be a disconnect with the AD there since Pitino first announced three players would be eligible to return for the Wisconsin game and then appeared to reverse himself and suspended them for the year after "consultation" from above. He may be retained though because he just signed an extension of his 1.6 M contract to 2021 at the start of the year. And the USA Today speculates Pappa Pitino may coach his final game for Louisville this week. Not a good week for the Pitinos and makes the future of Nebraska basketball a bit more optimistic than at least one league rival. Oh, and it was a lot colder with snow still on the ground up there too.

I don't think Illini fans are all that enamored with Groce right about now, either.

Also, don't forget that Matt Painter's buns were pretty toasty just a couple years ago...

Crean "was on the hot seat" to start the season. Now he's in the running for coach of the year.

I could certainly see Miles situation being related to Painters situation. Miles seat seems hot right now in some eyes (certainly not mine I want to add), but if he manages to win a tourney game next year or the following year... People will want a statue erected of him!

Painter had some young talent and pieces a few years ago that made them competitive though they were losing. They had a nice couple older players but also some nice young talent that has developed. We seem to be in the same situation.

Nebraska is similar in a lot of ways to Iowa/Wisc, sans the extensive tourney experience. Fran's been on the hot seat for quite a bit of his tenure, actually. When his recruiting got better, so did Iowa's recent success (relatively speaking). Nebraska could have used a South Sioux kind like Gesell, that's for sure. Iowa, and for that matter, Wisconsin and Nebraska are all three not that different in their primary athletics & recruiting in particular.

I'm from Superior but have lived here in the Twin Cities for 20 years. The latest in this downward spiral at the U 0f M involves former Gopher great Richard Coffey and his prize recruit of a son Amir. Seems the old man isn't too thrilled with the endless shananigans over in Dinky town and now Amir might be looking elsewhere. We would certainly take him, top 100 by ESPN.

It probably doesn't happen but if they lose a top 50 legacy kid Pitino is automatically done there as that would finally be something worse than simply being Tubby Smith.

But as the defeats have piled up, so have the off-the-court issues. Less than two weeks after dismissing senior Carlos Morris for “conduct detrimental to the team,” coach Richard Pitino announced Tuesday that guards Kevin Dorsey, Nate Mason and Dupree McBrayer were suspended for the remainder of the season. The videos appeared on the social media accounts of Dorsey.

Last season, Zach Lofton was dismissed for “failing to meet the expectations and obligations of the team,” and Daquein McNeil was arrested for allegedly committing two counts of felony assault.

The elder Coffey doesn’t take those sorts of losses lightly.

“It does make you think about the entire picture, yes it does,” he said, speaking specifically about the most recent suspensions. “I think any parent that had a son that was about to leave home, that’s very impressionable and is going to be away from home for the first time, living on campus — I think any parent would have some questions running through their mind about this situation right now.”

I stand corrected. I predicted in an earlier thread that Rutgers would not win a game in the league. But that was before the Gophers hit rock bottom. Pitino should just throw the manager's team out for the second half.
