If we can make the Big 10 tourney, the emergence of Max as a starter will be a huge boost.  As a starter, Knutson has thrown 11 2/3 IP, 11 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 8 SO, and now 1-0.  As a reliever, he has thrown 11 2/3 IP, 13 H, 12 R, 12 ER, 15 BB, 18 SO, and 0-1.  That is a 9.26 ERA as a reliever, and a 2.31 ERA as a starter.

Very interesting, brfrad. Nebraska needs to get their full complement of pitchers ready & available for the stretch run to make certain they will be eligible for the Big Ten tourney in Omaha. Best chance to get an NCAA bid in 2016 is through TD Ameritrade at the end of May.

Won 4 out 5. A sweep over Rutgers would make me feel a little better but we definitely need to win the series for Big Ten standings purposes.

Of the four games we have won recently the opponent has only scored 2 runs or less so pitching is coming around (hopefully to stay). If the bats heat up simultaneously, we have the schedule to go on a tear to end the season and still get some quality wins.

At the very least...this team needs to finish the regular season with 11 wins or more to be in position for an at large.  Probably asking for to much at this point.  Barring a meltdown over the next two weekends we should be okay in regards to making it to Omaha.

The OWH preview for the Rutgers series has Burkamper, Waldron, and Meyers listed as the weekend starters. Anyone know if McSteen is hurt or did he just get pulled from the rotation?

Pretty sure the latter.

I figured that was more than likely the answer since Burkamper and Meyers gave been pitching well and Waldron is healthy.

And yep as I type McSteen is coming in to pitch the 8th.

Huskers lose 3-2....wheels come off in the last inning.  Solid performance from Burkamper...no clutch hitting and all of Rutgers runs thanks to errors.  Things are starting to get pretty dicey in making the Big Ten tournament.

We still have 11 Big Ten games to go....but if we fail to make the Big Ten tournament I hope Eichorst and Erstad have a long long talk....like Erstad doing what is best for Nebraska and maybe moving on.

I was displaying another emotion in regard to that finish!

Pretty much a very good pitching performance by Burkamper wasted, much of that due to our persistent struggles at the plate.  Errors obviously due to allowing Rutgers' runs made the difference, but if we put enough runs on the board then only allowing one run going into the 9th puts us in a better position to close it.  We'll see what happens the rest of the series, but doesn't help me feel optimistic.

Boldt is still pressing.  Maybe a day off for him, or drop him out of the leadoff spot.  Try something to get him going.  If he doesn't get going, this team is going nowhere.

This.  He's had enough time to work through it.  The Mother Of All Slumps

I am not a big fan of him in the lead-off spot anyway.  I think Placzek should be the lead-off guy, and Boldt 2nd or 3rd.

Here's a line-up with him slumping, we should try to see if it might get him going.

Placzek

Myers

Miller

Schriber

Boldt

Alvarado

Fish/Wilkening

Schleppenbach

Reveles

Well, they finally switched it up a little; Placzek will lead off, followed by Bolt, Meyers, Miller, Schreiber.  I like the move; Jake's OBP is quite high, which you want out of your lead off guy.  No speed, but we weren't doing much with that anyway.

Now 7-1.  Another nice effort from Waldron.  Good to have him back.  Boldt continues to struggle.  Finally got a sacrifice fly, which for him right now is like a grand slam.  Rev having a good game, as is Wilkening.

Yes...big to have him back. He has arguably been our most consistent pitcher. Feel good about game 3 with Jake on the mound.

Man just a bone head error away from a sweep. A much needed sweep btw.

Sweep would have been huge but that was a much needed series win. Confidence booster and puts us on good position to make the conference tournament. RPI up to 72 after today's games. Not totally out of at large contention but we need to get hot.

Now that's more like it, particularly at the plate.  Great to see Ryan B. get a hit, and a HR at that.  Btm of 9th in game two today was a bite in the rear, however.  Need to get guys to pitch better there or if we get to postseason that could be our downfall.  Rutgers pitching may be suspect (haven't checked stats), but hopefully today's games gets those Husker bats going again!  GBR!    :)

I would have been more disappointed if it had been someone besides Howell.  Howell needed some work, and with an 8 run lead, it was a great chance to get him back.  Would have liked to seen him pitch better, but he will be a key down the stretch.

Should have...could have...would have won three.  Too bad, soooooo sad.

But, we did what we needed to do today.  Came out and took it to them despite what happened yesterday.  We're far from a great team, but this team, this day, epitomized competition.  Got off the carpet and got it done.

Yeah, I forgot about that important point.  Remember thinking at that time that's why they were getting a string of hits.  Then thought of other games when closing pitching didn't get it done.  Mind is slipping.
