2016 Husker Baseball

Big series win. Coming into today Boyds World had us needing to go 7-2 the remainder of the way to get into the top 45 RPI.  After today...that makes is 6 out 8 which is doable IMO considering all 8 will be Husker home games. 

Still tough but doable.  Certainly the series win today offers a good deal of encouragement.  Will hopefully get our confidence and "mo" going.  Win both series with the benefit of them being at home, and at least two W's in the B1G Tourney would put us in a very good spot.  Can't lose the reamaining non-cons, though.  Keep grinding, and GBR!!!   

 

Meyers indeed is one heck of an all-around baseball player!

How good is Penn State? Is going 4-0 next a realistic thing to hope for?

Motivation should not be a factor (atleast I would hope) since they are playing for their post season chances.

I would say UNO is a must win just based on their RPI.  Penn St has actually proven to be better than many thought they would be. 10-8 in the Big Ten right now but have struggled on the road sitting at 8-11.  The key for them was they swept the bad teams(Purdue/NW)...but have lost every other series.  Decent arms but struggle with the bat and mediocre defense.  At home, I think we can sweep them but just winning the series will suffice.  A sweep would be big in terms of staying in the hunt for the Big 10 regular season title.  It could come down to the last series vs Indiana who is currently in first place.  Weird year in the Big 10 in that it's a log jam.  We are two games out of first and two games out of 9th.

There are 13 teams in the Big 10. It makes it difficult to play more than 8 series. As every weekend one team has to play non conference. You would be pushing games into February.

Knutson with 8 solid innings. Miller & Schreiber with back-to-back jacks (for the 1st time in 4 years for Nebraseball). Nice hitting by Alvarado & Altavilla as well as Boldt returning to form. Keep on keeping on! GBR

Knutson's proformance last night made me think that we can get one game deeper in any tournament we play in.  We now have that fourth starter who can grind out some innings if we need them.

I have high expectations for this team, because I've see what this program is capaple of. I think I've said that before. I may be overly negative but this team has underperformed and I hold it to a high standard. That's all.

The expectations should be based on the talent in the program now.  Has nothing to do with what happened 10 years ago, or what it might abstractly be "capable of".   It's based on talent in the program now.  We don't have a power arm.  And we haven't recruited at the middle infielder position in years.  Are you sure this team has underperformed?  From what I've seen we've performed about to the talent level. Which is mediocre.   We either start recruiting better, or we stay mediocre.

No I agree, I guess I meant we underperformed comapared to what I expect out of this program. The recruiting needs beefed up. And honestly I've questioned the effort from boldt and burkamper, those are talents that should dominate B1G baseball.

Boldt and Burkamper have definitely been struggling.  Not sure of all the issues there, although Burkamper has had issues his entire time here at Nebraska.  

 

 I was just trying to clarify the difference between having mediocre talent, and guys not trying.  This team has been very resilient.  It never quits or gives in.  They have fought through adversity on numerous occasions.  We're just playing with very average ballplayers at a number of spots.  I'm no expert; I just go to most of the games and follow it pretty closely.  But my thought is we're playing about at our ability, vs. giving poor effort and just mailing it in.
