ajb5856 Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 “No, I don’t,’’ he said, chuckling. “I know we’re trying to do some things creatively to get one more player. But the guys I recruited, I think they are all aligned with UF. I wish those guys nothing but the best.’’ Seems that we need to take this comment at face value: (i) we aren't pursuing Noah Dickerson, and (ii) we've got something "creative" in the works to fill the last spot--there is nothing "creative" about pursuing Dickerson. And, according to the Rivals profile page for Dickerson, Burno is not Dickerson's lead recruiter. Well what do you guys expect Burno to say to that question? Something like, "hell yes, we are going hard after Noah Dickerson and expect him to come on board"? I don't think so. And I don't think we can take his comment at face value because he's being asked a question where he can't tell the truth if we are looking to get Dickerson. Coaches can't comment on recruits until they are signed anyway. So it's still possible, and in my mind likely, that the coaches are trying to recruit Noah Dickerson. And I think it's fair to assume we are recruiting him until we hear otherwise and he has committed to another school. Quote

Swan88 Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 So, how does Noah differ from Ed Morrow? Noah is less than 6' 8" tall. He's a power-forward type, we are told by a Florida source, not a true center. That seems to be what Ed is--although, Noah looks less-explosive as a shot blocker than Ed but is probably a wider body than Ed. BirdsOnTheBat 1 Quote

The Fla guy said he was 6'7 and no taller than 6'71/2". This does NOT sound like the "big man" everybody is clamoring for. Quote
Red Don Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 Is there any doubt but that we would like to 'recruit' Noah Dickerson to come to Nebraska? Is there any doubt that Coach Burno has more than a passing acquaintance with Dickerson, lead recruiter or not? Is there any doubt that Miles will use the contacts he has, to the extent allowed, to gain a 'hearing' with Dickerson? I do not believe Coach Burno has Noah Dickerson 'in-his-pocket;' But the same things that 'sold' Coach Burno on Nebraska may also put Dickerson 'in-play.' Miles is a good salesman; more and more as he puts the building blocks in place, he has more to 'Sell.' Quote

lanigan123 Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 According to one Gator site, he said Burno was his recruiter. He would play Center here. He would do really well with that spot. Body size/frame play a big role beyond being 6 71/2. What's the height requirement for a Center? Walt was 6 10 and played like he was 6 5. Quote
Swan88 Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 "He would play Center here"?! Uh-oh: "He doesn't really fit with what Coach (Michael) White wants. If he would've stuck with Florida, he wouldn't have played power forward, he would've been a center - a really undersized center. . . . he's a below-the-rim player." Quote
lanigan123 Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 So Swan feels he didn't stick with Florida because of style, it wasn't because his head coach left and the assistant he was closest to left. Quote
Swan88 Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 I don't think anything. Just quoting what's been reported today. Don't know if we are in the mix for Dickerson or not. But It's pretty obvious that we've seen nothing--absolutely nothing--to say we are, other than some speculations and wishful thinking. In fact, our best speculations are that denials of any connection by ones who should know aren't genuine--are merely coach-speak. Best of luck on that. Silverbacked1 1 Quote

It's hard to really think anything right now. Some are choosing to take a more positive thought process and are assuming we are in on Dickerson until we hear otherwise and others are assuming Dickerson to Nebraska is unlikely until we hear differently. We will know one way or the other soon enough. Also, in response to some of the Morrow-Dickerson talk, it's hard to project who will end up as the better player. Their sizes are similar, their games may be slightly different. Their rivals rankings are close. It's not like Dickerson is a top 10 player or anything. That seems to be what some are acting like. Now, I'd take him in a heartbeat. He does play below the rim. That's okay. He is barely 6-8 or not quite. I heard a lot of people say last season that all we needed was a healthy Leslee Smith. Watching some film of Dickerson, he does show off some post moves where he appears sneaky quick. Reminded me of some of the block moves Leslee displayed when he was feeling right. I'm assuming we hear what is happening with the final scholarship within the next week or so. Silverbacked1, Red Don and hhcmatt 3 Quote

Sounds like some sour grapes from someone who lost a 4-star recruit. He's the #51 recruit in the country per ESPN and the new Florida coach is, like, meh, we don't need him? I don't believe it. I didn't see "below the rim" when he was dunking or blocking shots. Not questioning you, Swan. I'm just wondering who said the things you quoted above. Quote
lanigan123 Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 ajb, he reminded me of a younger version of Leslee Smith, as he is currently, with the potential to be much more. Remember, Leslee as a Center was listed as 6 8. He is vastly different than Ed isn't a back to the basket #4. He plays off the bounce. The reality is, he likely isn't coming here. However, the coaches should and likely are trying to get him here. Quote
Fullbacksympathy Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 He reminds me of Paul Milsap. Similar skillset. Nice looking jumper that will probably increase in range over time, and a D1 ready frame. Quote
lanigan123 Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 It simply amazes people who say he can't play because he may only be 6 7- 6 7 1/2 as a true freshman, yet opine for this guy to play as a grad transfer http://m.espn.go.com/ncb/playercard?playerId=56672&src=desktop It just doesn't make sense.
