49r Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 not sure why, but georgia and ksu don't worry me. smu has larry brown, but how much longer is he really going to be there? marquette would worry me because it would be close to home for him. You have to like our chances being in the Big 10 and having a huge need for a big guy. I like our chances of getting this thread to over 20 pages by the end of the weekend! Quote

REDZONEDAN Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 So what do you guys think the chances are he commits to us before he leaves? slim. He is getting interest from schools like Duke and UCLA. Now it may be like a 1% interest but I doubt he will shut things down with his stock skyrocketing like it is right now. How can you say slim? According to Mike, his top 5 schools are NU, Georgia, KSU, SMU, and Marquette and it doesn't look like Duke and UCLA are offering anytime soon. Plus, this would be his third official visit with only 2 remaining. I think we have a very good shot. He asked what do we think of a commitment "before he leaves" meaning a weekend commitment. He has stated several times he will take visits, though the newest article says he may only take one more instead of previously all 5. So to answer the question that was posed, that should be the most likely answer though I'd be happy to be wrong. Now to the grand question of will he commit to us at some point, that changes quite a bit. Kamdy (and/or anyone else), do you think Mike Edwards could come in next year and be an immediate contributor? I know a big man is an area of need, so he probably won't have a choice, but do you think physically he'll be ready? Normally it seems as if a big man needs a year or two in the system before he has a major impact. Quote

Normally it seems as if a big man needs a year or two in the system before he has a major impact. As you'll see throughout the thread, this kid is still learning. I think MichHusker said he picked up the game in 7th grade, so he hasn't been playing that long. He has some refining to do in order to be a contributor on a B1G level team. So, I don't know that he's the guy we need for being a starter from day 1 next year. I do think he is a kid who can come in and get minutes right off the bat, though. He's reasonably athletic for his size. He has good muscle structure, which suggests he can add muscle weight to his frame. He's one of those kids who can probably top out at 245 to 250#. Maybe more. He wont' be there next November, but he sure could be 225# by November. I think he's also very agile for a guy that size. If you watch the films linked above, there are plays where his agility is on display. One where he steps into a passing lane and tips the ball for a steal, then flips it back in bounds while he's jumping out of bounds to save it, then he hustles down the floor and gets a diagonal pass cutting to the basket on the break for the score. So, in one sequence, he deflects a pass, saves it from going out of bounds, continues running and gets ahead of the play and then finishes at the other end. That -- and many other plays -- showed this kid has very good agility for his size. The other thing I think I've mentioned is that he uses the backboard really well. That's important. Look at the tape of the kid headed to PSU next year. He waits under the basket and they feed him a bunch of post entries and he's so deep in the paint, he's able to turn around and dunk it. He's not likely going to be able to get that kind of position in the post at the next level. There won't be all those dunk opportunities. That's where having a guy who can bank in a little flip, hook shot is going to have an advantage. My opinion, FWIW, is this kid can play. With some coaching in the pre-season, he should be able to get rotation minutes off the bat. And a year or two down the road, he could be really good. REDZONEDAN 1 Quote

The only limitation is the number of negatives a person can give out per day so that guys don't get into a downvote pissing match. I see the point of the system as two fold: To minimize the number of responses that would be just yes/no/I agree/I disagree and to notify me if I need to do any sort of moderation, positive or negative.
