Ya I would dump Benny and take this guy in a heart beat.... Attitude issues and all. 45% from 3 & 19ppg. Sad thing is I'm probably in the minority...

The sad thing is you think its a sad thing. These are young men representing their university. They are not professional athletes where you move people in and out because its a business. You're talking about "dumping" someone who has (not counting the Iowa game) always represented his school well in all areas. If winning means selling your soul and using people up and spitting them out when you're done with them, then that's not a program I would want to root for. I would rather support a team that has integrity and makes the effort to do things the right way even if that means I don't receive the instant gratification of winning now at all costs. Some costs are too high and treating people decently shouldn't be the high mark it should be expected.

And your reference to "Attitude issues and all" makes me think you've never tried to guide a team with attitude issues. Do I need to reference the Biggs situation?

So, Dean, you're suggesting we should try to land this kid so that we can spark a little run when we dismiss him from the team for rules violations in a couple of seasons?

I never actually thought of that, but at this point I would be willing to give it a try. :)

I'm not by any means saying to dump Bennie, but if a player of this caliber wanted to be N, I would try like hell to find room. The current players on court effort and attitude aren't exactly representing the program the right way anyways

Do you take MM sitting next year over a big man though playing immediately though?

Actually, you specifically said you would dump Bennie in a heartbeat.   We're not a good team this year, but for the most part, our effort and attitude has been just fine.  These guys represent our program well.  Never in trouble, lots of volunteer time, great stuff for Avery.  These are good guys, and you are a cheap shot artist.

Speaking of cheap shot artists.......geez, that is pretty harsh.

Discussion of ways to improve the talent level of a struggling team by a passionate fan base on a basketball messageboard is pretty normal I think.

No, 316 took it to the personal level, not the talent level. Saying our guys don't represent the program well goes to an entire different place.  Obviously, Miles said the same thing with regard to one game, but I am very confident he would say that this was the exception.  And watching the team all year, you can tell they care, they try.  We may not win enough to suit some folks, but to talk about dumping a senior who has done everything right here and represented us well, and saying our guys effort and attitude sucks, takes it to a different, personal level.  When that happens I will defend their character.

It was harsh reply to what can accurately be described as a cheap shot. Hopefully it will end at that.

LOL this thread is funny... I said exactly what Miles said and I took a cheap shot.. yet YOU defended his comments and his move to lock them out... How interesting the double standard around here...

Marshall would help us win... what exactly is out their that suggests he is a 'bad' kid or would be a 'problem' Is Pitchford a problem? is AWIII, is Petteway? You know sometimes, the coaches are in the wrong-- sometimes its mutual issues on both side.

Its personal for me to say the current players aren't representing the program well but its not personal for you guys to say this kid would come in and create major problems?? Hypocrites at its finest....

Actually, 316, I never mentioned Marshall once in this thread and neither did most of the other posters.  And if the thread is "funny", it could be because in Post 23 you said "I would dump Benny and take this guy in a heartbeat", and in Post 29 you said "I'm not by any means saying to dump Bennie...".  While that isn't "hypocrisy"  it is a bit "inconsistent".   In any event, Dimes got it right in Post 34.  I would think the case could be made for Marshall without dumping on our players.

Once again you said you would dump Benny, then you said you wouldn't less than 24 hours later. You got called out about it and you act like everyone else has the problem. On a side note, Benny was told he should probably look somewhere else after his freshman year, came back, and became a part of why we made the tourney last year. He's going to be a senior. What sort of thought process leads anyone to the conclusion that Benny Parker is going to transfer somewhere and sit for a year or that Miles would make him do that?

I said exactly what Miles said and I took a cheap shot..

But you didn't. It would seem you only value players based on on court performance in the last week or so.

When you talk about "representing the program", you mean it in the least meaningful way possible.

Even if you quantify it, "representing the program" still infers off the court behavior, which currently isn't a problem with the exception of JH's grades. We're talking about kids who decided to come to Nebraska to play basketball.

This is a forum full of people invested into this program. If you're going to treat this program like a fantasy basketball team with no consequences outside of the court or even logic, you will get reactions/replies and you will be challenged on it. Adding another player means losing another player. Attempt to be respectful or at least actually put some thought into it. BP isn't going anywhere and I can't understand why any rational fan who has followed this program would think otherwise.

It is our throw away society, didn't satisfy me in 30 sec. bail and get new....oh something shiny.

Sadly its also what CBB has become. There is the occasional teams that are built over years of teamwork + blood, sweat, and tears. But most the top teams are getting hired gun after hired gun to compete at the top. One and dones and grad transfers = CBB.

That being said were gonna have to be the program to grind it out and build a winning culture. I know Miles can do it, but it will be a couple of years before we see the fruits of labor these kids are putting in right now.

It would seem that Shavon Sheilds will not have to give up his scholarship to walk on after all

Whew.  I was worried for him there for a while.

Can you imagine being Shavon and having to ask your dad, "Hey, um, dad, can you pay my last year of college so I can walk on?"
