McCaffery calls out Dakich

Don't know if anyone witnessed this happening, but apparently Woodbury decided to play Moe from the three stooges and poke a player or two in the eyes.  Dakich lit him up and among other things, called him gutless.  Coach Fran is taking offense and is seeking an apology...not for the eye pokes, but for the commentary...

 

Dakich, working as the analyst on ESPN’s telecast of the game, was incensed. He used such terms as “garbage,’’ “gutless’’ and “cowardly,’’ and said the Big Ten needed to suspend Woodbury for his actions...

 

...After having a chance to watch video of the two plays a few dozen times, it’s clear to me that Woodbury poked Hayes in both eyes and probably nicked Kaminsky in or under the left eye. However, it’s not possible to determine whether or not it was intentional either time...

 

...“Danny Dakich is so far out of line. He’s just lost it on this one,’’ McCaffery said. “He doesn’t know Adam Woodbury. And for him to say the reprehensible things he’s said about an amateur is inexcusable. It’s absolutely inexcusable that his network would allow him to say those things about a guy he doesn’t know.’’

 

McCaffery used the word “idiotic’’ at least three times in reference to Dakich’s comments.

“He owes Adam Woodbury and Adam Woodbury’s family an apology for how he attacked that kid so maliciously,’’ he added. “I’m really disappointed in him, I’ll tell you that....

Oh...and this was a good one (not)

 

One Iowa State Patrol supervisor got himself in trouble by joking on Facebook that he wished “there was a sniper at Carver-Hawkeye to shoot the color commentator (Dakich) in the head.’’

 

...By the way, what did whatshisbucket call Cookie Miller one time :)

It does look pretty inadvertent and the guy doesn't have any sort of history. Pretty out of line from Dakich.

 

However, it shouldn't stop the student section from poking fun of Woodbury

Not sure Dakich had enough evidence to go as hard on Woodbury as he did, but Fran is starting to just draw more attention to it. Fran may be 2nd only to Frank Martin in surly demeanor during a game. I get defending your player, but  Fran's use of dramatic language may surpass what Dakich did.  Next thing you know he'll say he's a man, he's 40.

Dakich has had other dust-ups, namely with Bo Ryan. Not too surprising that Danny would go off on the eye pokes. Woodbury is a tool, anyways. And, boy howdy, do Franny & Iowa deserve each other; maybe the Hawks need to sign him up for a lifetime contract like Kirky! ;)

I watched the game replay last night when I got home from the game and paid close attention to Dakich.

 

There really wasn't anything he said that I disagree with.

 

Ergo, McCaffery is a hot headed old fool.  Case closed.

Oh it's true. Woodbury was guarding on the wing both Kaminsky & Hayes (not at the same time, mind you); Adam used both index & middle fingers to gouge the opponent in BOTH eyes. Now, it could have been accidental if it simply occurred one time, but the same damn thing happened twice in similar situations on the court. Woody is a tool. As is Franny, what a whiny lil' baby he is!

This has to be BS. We all have photographic proof that Woodbury's tiny arms could never reach up to Kaminsky's eye level. After all I saw this on HHC so it must be true. Kind of like Moses' plastic man legs.

Kaminsky was bent over at the time.  Practically rammed his eyeballs into Adam Woodbury's fingers.  Using Einstein's theory of relativity, it's all a matter of perspective as to whether Kaminsky's face was moving into Woodbury's fingers or Woodbury's fingers were moving into Kaminsky's face.  So ...

I don't know, but I just think it was really crafty of Kaminski to position his head at a place where Woodbury would practically HAVE to poke him in the eye in order to extend his hand out fully.  Kaminski should be suspended.

I second that motion, and Frank will be allowed to play until his appeal date of February 9th at which time his suspension of 1 game will be handed down.  Frank will therefore be suspended for Wisconsins February 10th game.

When asked about it, Fran told the reporter to "ask an intelligent question".  When asked why the question wasn't intelligent, he said "because I said so". 

 

So, Fran isn't saying much about it, I guess.

Yeah saw that on Sportscenter, man that guy is a true horse's ass.
