FredsSlacks Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 Charlotte, Nevada, Auburn, Nebraska. Clemson is out
Cookie Belcher Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 Yeah, liking our chances here.
ajb5856 Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 Charlotte, Nevada, Auburn, Nebraska. Clemson is out Interesting. Also interesting that he says he visiting Charlotte on March 8th. Isn't that the day after his alleged announcement?
Silverbacked1 Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 Well this screws up the clock. Robin Washut@RobinWashut Alex Kline of @TheRecruitScoop tells me Matt Atewe no longer plans to announce on his bday, March 7. Will officially visit Charlotte on 3/8
Norm Peterson Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 No kidding. And after all the work they went through to make that clock. This sucks. Because of the clock thing. 49r 1
FredsSlacks Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 Charlotte might be a legitimate threat. I remember Atewe saying he had a great relationship with their coaches.
Cookie Belcher Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 We should win any recruiting battle with Charlotte.
ajb5856 Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 We should win any recruiting battle with Charlotte. Miles should be able to win a recruit from Charlotte. If he can't, then the recruit really didnt want to come here or the recruit is a backup plan. The longer this drags out, the more I think Miles may have a bigger plan.
ajb5856 Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 This is pure speculation here so dont get me wrong because i will be thrilled if we land Atewe. But maybe, just maybe Miles has a legit senior transfer in mind that can jump in and help us out immediately for next season. If he has several possibilities in mind and can make one work out, then maybe he passes on the Atewe project in favor of the extra scholarship for 2014, to really balance out the classes and to land bigger fish. I know Atewe has had this March 7 announcement date set forever and now he's pushing it back. The longer things drag on the more I feel like Miles either has another plan, has a possible alternate plan, or just wants to be extra sure before he gives away a potential 2014 scholarship on a 2013 freshman who most likely wouldn't see a ton of time right away on a team with a lot on newcomers already.
Norm Peterson Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 If he was waiting for a bigger name to make an offer, Charlotte ain't it.

Is there any indication that this is dragging out due to Nebraska slow-playing him, though? I haven't heard anything that indicates Atewe wanted to commit but Nebraska hasn't accepted his offer, which would be the only evidence of Miles having a bigger plan.

No indication that this is Nebraska's doing at all. It's just speculation but if Nebraska was completely sold on Atewe being a must get and Atewe has a commitable offer, it's just odd that Charlotte is the reason he is now pushing his commit date back. It's always possible that Charlotte is a legit contender and he really likes them, but its just a bit odd. Maybe nothing more than he likes them and wants to check everything out, it just makes you wonder.
Hooper Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 Everything I've heard suggests that the staff felt they were reaching on Kevin Thomas, so they dropped him. I've heard they like Atewe far better. He's a raw prospect, but he's something this program desperately needs right now. Check out these brief highlights starting at 2:05. He's #12 in white. Tell me Nebraska can't use this kid immediately. We have no one like him in the program right now.

You old time veterans of HHC, Have other posts received this much interest in the past? Not sure of any of the views on the old site(s) I can tell you right offhand that over 40% of the views in the recruiting forum would be this topic. I think the Ken Pom with 8000+ views is the next highest

I wanted to see him create a shot down low or rebound. I would love to have this kid but him moving his announcement date back tells me he's a little unsure yet. Someone else might emerge that we don't even know about yet as Miles and company are recruiting hard with lots of kids these days.

Someone else might emerge that we don't even know about yet as Miles and company are recruiting hard with lots of kids these days. From my friend thats seen him a couple times the past two years he says his offensive game is lacking the ability to move and create his own shot. He feels it has a lot to do with Atewe not being in the right offense as well as not having the best coaching for a big man. Apparently the offense is centered around the guards and that Atewe just goes from block to block and gets lobs and passes like in this video when the defense falls asleep on him. Like Norm stated earlier if his offensive game was much better he would have a ton more major offers on the table as defneisvely and body wise he fits the bill.
Red Rum Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 I'm thinking we can get this up to 30 pages before he makes up his mind. Norm Peterson 1
Hooper Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 Atewe isn't a big-time offensive threat yet. That would have to develop in time. He's a pretty solid defender, though, who rebounds and blocks shots. A player like that would be a huge boost to next year's team, even if for the rebounding alone. Look at his body. Nebraska won't have a player quite like him on the roster next year. This is a kid who's used to playing in the paint. Walt Pitchford is used to playing on the perimeter. Getting Atewe would potentially allow Pitchford to be a PF. He'd give us a huge boost, not only in size, but in roster flexibility. I'd love to get an athletic big man like this, even if he takes a couple of years to really develop. Interesting article on him from a year ago in a Canadian magazine: http://crownmagonline.com/recruiting/atewe-likes-new-setting-as-high-major-interest-grows/
MandRHusker Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 I read a post by Robin at Rivals that Atewe has an offer from Nebraska and that he is still our number one target. Robin quoted Atewe as saying that he planned to take all 5 of his official visits and that the visit to Charlotte was just part of that process. Robin felt that Atewe is not looking for the shining lights and big vennues so it is not surprising that a place like Charlotte would be interesting to him. Guess we'll just have to wait and see who he chooses!
Cookie Belcher Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 I still want him and I think Nebraska still wants him. What I am saying is a visit to Charlotte doesn't worry me. When he goes and visits Charlotte, our facilities, support, staff, and everything will be more impressive. I still consider Nebraska the favorite.
cwshuskers Posted February 27, 2013 Report Posted February 27, 2013 Atewe sounds like a smart kid. He's just going through the process and learning about all his options which is what he should do. In the end I believe he'll sign with us, it just might take a little longer to secure his commitment then we had hoped.
Swan88 Posted February 27, 2013 Report Posted February 27, 2013 Still not buying that we are getting the full story of what's actually going on behind the scenes. It seems more probable every day that Matthew is a back-up plan for Nebrasketball and that Charlotte is the back-up plan for Matthew.
Silverbacked1 Posted February 27, 2013 Report Posted February 27, 2013 And, most likely, we will never know what is going down.
