Silverbacked1 Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 I really have to wonder what happend to the crowd last night? Not one effort was made to do Husker Power, has Jean finally got her way, or was it that the usual leaders of the Red Zone where not there? I posted this on another thread but I feel like the PBA staff is trying to change things some: I also want to add this. I get a different feel from the PBA and staff. At the game Sunday I watched 5 security guards, a cop and some guy in a suit show up to toss the kid who threw the Herbie face on the floor. I know it was wrong, but 7 guys to ask him to leave? Also 5 students behind the Creigton bench where removed at the first time out for yelling at the bench. I know one of the kids and will ask what it was for, but his dad said no warning just you are gone. And lastly, my son did yell out BS on a bad call, I told to watch his language, and he knew it. But within like :30 an usher was over telling him to watch his language or he would be removed. I get this, however I have been to every game at the vault and there has never been an usher anywhere near our seats. So how did somebody get up there so fast and how did they know what he said?Just some of my thoughts, not good or bad, just thoughts. Does anybody else get this vibe or was it because we have struggled some this season and it has really come to my attention because of the last two losses? I'll hang up and read what you all think. Agree. PBA staff is overboard. Not much effort in the crowd last night. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 I noticed a security person there last night as well that I'd never seen before. And, by security, I'm not talking about one of the people in yellow-green shirts helping people find their seats. I'm talking about "Security." I flipped her some shit, actually. Like this place needs crowd control? Really? I just ignored her response to me. I sort of contemptuously blew her off. Feel kind of bad for it this morning because she was just doing her job, but, still. If looting and stealing is "peaceful protesting" then what happens at the Vault is like a 2 hour nap. And for some reason they locked the Club Lounge toward the end of the game for the first time ever. We always exit through there, and it was locked and guarded like it held a stash of gold. I asked one of the green shirts what was up, and she said "my supervisor ordered it". WTF? P.S. Turn down the air conditioning. It's December. Quote
hhcmatt Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Looks like the event staff also brought out the Creighton game plan a game late. They were handing out uneaten pizza in my section at the end of the game. Quote
HF_ Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 That place is hilariously overstaffed with security/ushers etc. Let the kids have fun (aside from throwing things). If they are gonna kick people out for bad language they can pretty much eject everybody from the top of the 300 level down to the coaches on the bench. Quote

PeltzFan12 Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Been to every home game so far this year, and I have commented to friends and family that it hasn't been the same as last year. I guess last year was a bit more "new" and magical since it was everyone's first time..... This year I feel like it's gone back to a lot of who the Bob used to be. I haven't noticed over staffing of security, but did notice 63 degree air blowing down on me....I kept my coat on for most of the first half. I really love parking up by the baseball field, walking across that bridge with the wind hitting me in the face, being kind of chilled from the weather, only to sit in my seats and discovering they are running the AC for all 9,500 of us in the arena. BenJammin63 Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 It's impossible to yell things at the opponents bench now because they got cops and numerous security guards watching the students like a hawk. We have no freedom down there and it really takes away from making the student section rowdy as hell. It's tough to yell things now without having to worry about getting tossed. Quote

Sounds a bit ridiculous. Can someone make Coach Miles aware of the security situation? Remember his introductory press conference? I'm sure he can pull the strings so that the student section can get rowdy within reason. Heckling the visitors bench should be within reason save for a few choice phrases or words. I understand the no throwing stuff but everything else? Come on. jaimes2000 and HuskerActuary 2 Quote

PimpMario Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 Crowd was bad for Creighton game. Maybe the result of the creighton game gave them a hangover for the Incarnate Word game. The cincianti game is a must win game all of a sudden. Quote

hhcmatt Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 It was disappointing to not see the student section carry out those Husker Power signs. I sat there waiting for them while listening to the people in front of me politely clap three times after each player was announced. I get it though...it's hard to get going for these types of teams...we don't have the sort of basketball tradition where people show up and go nuts watching here for a paycheck U. It wasn't like the PBA was rocking last year to start the season...how rowdy was the crowd watching Western Illinois? The real disappointment about that lack of chant is that I personally feel that it sets a tone. It lets the team know that we're doing something besides tweeting, texting, knitting, etc to start the game. Noah121, Silverbacked1 and HolyBobpilgrimage 3 Quote

Omaha Nebrasketballer Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 Is it possible that a lot of the big "football fan only" donors jumped on the bandwagon after the success of last year's team and secured tickets for this year? And maybe a lot of those same people were vocal in voicing their opinion to the NU Athletic Department about how the crowds at PBA are "too loud", and that people "stand up too much"? It would be sad if true, but it also wouldn't surprise me.... Quote
