To be honest tonight reminded me of the Bob the last few years. Fans didn't want to be there, students didn't show up. Hell not even an atempt at Husker Power during intros. I think I saw a very happy Jean leaving the building tonight.

It was just plain BAD.

Last year was lightning in a bottle. That being said Miles will get us there, it just will take longer then 2-3 years. I think right now we are discovering how special last winter was, and what can happen when your expectations are high. 

 

In Miles we trust. Give it time.

Yep.  Reminded me of all those days I could sit at Devaney, put my coat in the row below me, and sprawl out without so much a care about taking up seats around me.  I'd say PBA was at 60% capacity tonight, and that may be generous.  The 300 level was about 15% full....

If you're definition of the honeymoon being over is us not making the tourney every year from here on out....it's probably going to be over if not this year then at some point.

 

Something to consider:

 

John Beilein at Michigan

 

Year 1 - 10-22

Year 2 - 21-14 - 10 Seed in NCAA tourney

Year 3 - 15-17

I think most of Husker BBall nation has faith in Miles....last year alone should've bought him some equity.....

 

That being said, it's not just the losses, but the way our team has looked even in some of the wins.  Unorganized, undisciplined, unfocused.  Some of that is coaching too.

I sense the bandwagon lightening already. The way the football season played out and the way basketball has begun has certainly not helped the Cornhusker state's national image. I sincerely hope that Coach Miles still has the knack of building momentum as the season progresses or things will be pretty dour for us by springtime.

Most disappointing thing to me besides the incredible bone headed mistakes is the fans. The place is 55-60% full for non conference games & not loud at all. You would thinks the fans realized the impact they could have last year vs Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, etc at home.

You know it is like the crowd read about how awesome we are and then think all they need to do is show up and the noise goes up and the other team is scared and we will win. We as fans are kind of acting like the team, show up and the noise will come without any effort. I mean haven't you read about us?

I know I have tried one my part, but not like last year. And that is on me to come ready to cheer and not wait for the team to do something. I feel that we as a crowd has not shown up either and that is sad, because when you go and are tired after the game well then you might just have done your part to help us win.

I also want to add this. I get a different feel from the PBA and staff. At the game Sunday I watched 5 security guards, a cop and some guy in a suit show up to toss the kid who threw the Herbie face on the floor. I know it was wrong, but 7 guys to ask him to leave? Also 5 students behind the Creigton bench where removed at the first time out for yelling at the bench. I know one of the kids and will ask what it was for, but his dad said no warning just you are gone. And lastly, my son did yell out BS on a bad call, I told to watch his language, and he knew it. But within like :30 an usher was over telling him to watch his language or he would be removed. I get this, however I have been to every game at the vault and there has never been an usher anywhere near our seats. So how did somebody get up there so fast and how did they know what he said?

Just some of my thoughts, not good or bad, just thoughts.

Why there was anybody up there after the first media timeout is a mystery to me...at the Bob they asked everybody to move on down...it was obvious they should have asked the same during this game.

 

But a home loss to IW is gonna be a blemish on the resume, regardless....not giving up on the team/season, but these losses sting, and make for a fairly quiet drive back to Omaha....

Well, except for my "expletive deleted" tirades!

How did Miles describe last season? As an EKG? It's natural to think the program building process is going to have a similar trajectory. Figuring out how to go from hunter to hunted rarely is a smooth process, unfortunately, and I think that explains some of the tentative/tight play thus far.

 

Speaking for myself, I was hoping things would pick up from end of last season and continue on an upward trajectory, but realistically, you had to think bumps in the road were coming. Maybe not the crater-sized potholes we've seen this week, but bumps regardless.

 

Learning how to overcome those bumps is what building a program to last is all about. And will make your program stronger in the long run.

Yes, my son said the same thing last night, it isn't as much fun to be the hunted rather than the hunter. Right now we aren't handling that part very well.

The guy that I sit with said the same thing that Lee said about these guys are trying not to disappoint the fans, university, teammates, coaches and are trying not to fail. Meanwhile that is kind of what they are doing.

I think we as fans need to show them some support tomorrow night with a loud crowd, might help send them off to Hawai'i in a postive mood.

Agreed - he is the best writer in the state by quite a bit - that doesn't mean I like everything he writes, but it's more because I don't want to hear it ;) , not because he's off base.

 

And good point on the players trying almost too hard to please the fans, live up to expectations, etc. What sometimes comes across to fans as not giving an effort or playing without focus is actually the opposite - they're trying too hard/overthinking it. I think this happens in baseball more often than other team sports, but it certainly can happen in hoops. Such as, not to pick on Tai, but you can almost see him trying to guide the ball into the basket as he shoots, rather than just relying on muscle memory and his training.

 

Hopefully it goes well Saturday, but even if it doesn't, having to focus on finals next week and then traveling together to Hawaii for several days should help the guys hit the reset button on hoops heading into B1G play. Should be good for them.
