Help me out. Wanted to get things organized in my mind. It's somewhat unclear with a couple guys but here's what I believe to be the current situation.

Currently have 1 open scholarship

David Rivers leaves

Moses Abraham scholarship opens back up

That's 3 'for sure' openings for 2015.

But we also have Petteway who could potentially go to the draft and we have the Leslee Smith scenario which is somewhat foggy.

Right now we have Michael Jacobson signed up with 2 more 'true openings'. Clearly, Morrow and Glynn Watson are two remaining recruits at the top of the list and both are coming in for visits.

Who else comes in to visit? Any chance we get D'Jery Baptiste on campus? A big body is going to be an area we lack and D'Jery certainly has one. Athletic freak.

I really don't think leslee comes back for a medical. If he does I think your numbers are correct and if someone like baptise wants in we take him and make room.

I agree. It's safe to say that we should have 1 additional spot, assuming we land both Morrow and Watson, and I expect the coaches will recruit as if we have that one spot or more.

I don't think we're still in it for Baptiste.  I didn't hear anything about us recruiting him this summer.  

 

It would be nice to land another "big" since Moses will only be here for one year.

It does sound like Morrow and Watson are the main targets.  I would not be surprised if Morrow commits after the Miami game and Watson sometime in September as well.  

 

Here are a few additional names I have seen mentioned but do not know where we are on:

 

Henry Ellenson: Has that ship sailed?  Seems like EVERYONE wants him.

 

JoJo Anderson: Has the coaching staff moved on from him?

There's no way Terran Petteway comes back for his senior season based on all of the information currently available. The default assumption has to be that he'll leave early, and Miles even said as much to folks who attended the recent golf outing.

 

Honestly, I'd love to have Leslee Smith back for 2015-2016, but I doubt that happens.

I'm not sure when one applies for a medical redshirt.  The above makes it sound like we can apply before the season and that Leslee only plays if he's capable and 2015-16 isn't an option.  I assume he graduates this year so if he does get the medical redshirt and we fill up on scholarships for the first time in Miles' Nebraska tenure he could transfer and play immediately somewhere else.

I disagree. I've heard that TP's official draft analysis last year was not very positive at all (like end if second round, if drafted). I believe he keeps it posted in his locker for motivation. Needs much improvement on defense and jump shot. Right now, he'd be back.

Well, Baptiste was at some of the same events this summer as Morrow. So even if we didn't hear anything about the coaches watching Baptiste, it's still possible that they were. We don't hear everything obviously. I don't think we are able to count him out automatically just because we haven't heard anything yet. Unless you know something specific.

Maybe Robin will read this and can provide an update.

UConn offered him and that was where many have said he wanted to go. Its been extremely quiet on his front but I'd guess Uconn or many predict Vanderbilt as the 1B school for him.

Read an article from 7/22 that said UCONN had backed off recruiting Baptiste.

I believe Nebraska currently has 3 spots open for the 2015 class, now that Jacobson and White have committed.

I can only tell you that Miles told fans who attended the Husker Hoops golf outing Wednesday that he felt there was no way Terran would return for his senior season. The rationale given was that he had improved his game dramatically during the off-season and had really enhanced his standing among NBA scouts. 

 

I'm just passing along what Miles said to people who were there. Obviously, it's a dynamic situation, but people need to understand that the staff themselves feel that TP is almost certainly gone after this year.

Illkainen is basically off the board. He's already scheduled 3 officials and NU is not in his top group which was recently updated on 24/7.

Good insight - thank you. He certainly knows what he needs to improve and obviously puts the time in. If that's the case, we should reap the benefits on the court and in the recruiting game. What a pitch that would make!

I would be surprised if he makes the necessary improvements on defense to be a top 16 pick. So I will predict that he either comes back, or ends up at the end of the first round/beginning of second round.

He's gone after this year.  It will be interesting to come back here in June and see how people's predictions hold up.
