never said they had to be great players..... just said most have played the game. here is an example http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/24490175/ranking-the-ncaa-tournament-coaches-by-playing-career-1-68

all of this does not take away from Doc quitting and being a poor coach but divert from that as you wish.

Uh, he didn't quit. In any sense of the word. ( And you created the diversion, so you might want to avoid bitching about any diversion.

BTW, Croft is a former Southern Miss alum who was in Evansville (was he involved with Surge?) and Cox spent the last two years at a Juco powerhouse in Idaho.

Oh my, I was wondering if Cox would get this gig. IMO not a good sign for Doc.

Not a fan of Cox?

Just didn't seem like a high level assistant for the Big 12 level when he was here; he was definitely "available" at the end when things were looking bleak, and that may say it all. Not a strong recruiter, not a rising star, not a splash. Not sure what Doc is budgeted for assistants but I was thinking he could get someone more dynamic.

The good news is he shaved that mustache.

I have to think, as first impressions go -- and first impressions are very important -- that he lost a lot of credibility right off the bat with a lot of people based on his appearance, particularly from the mustache.  And I don't say that to be mean.  Rightly or wrongly, we're judged on first impressions and the first impression is typically based on what we see.  Glad he finally got rid of it.

I don't understand how that could possibly be a recruiting tool. Don't these recruits know? That viney stuff grows so fast, if you stopped your car in a city park for some late night Standhardinger, by the time you finished you'd need the cops to show up just to cut you free.

Croft was at a small college in Evansville, Southern Indiana. He was actually a professor and not involved with their basketball program. Croft earned his doctorate while he was the ops guy here (through UTEP extension). We should be calling him Dr. Croft.

Cox was never an assistant for us when we were in that other conference.
