Those 7-footers don't just walk into your gym every day.

When one does, you take a good look, especially when he's covered in hair.

That's what Nebraska basketball coaches did this week, gaining a commitment in the process from 7-foot-4, 265-pound Sas' Quatch, according to Rivals.com.

The native of Linwood, Nebraska could play immediately this year for Husker coach Tim Smiles. That's no small detail for a roster that could use some help inside.

Quatch committed after visiting Lincoln on Monday. Currently playing for Link Prep in Nebraska, Quatch was receiving interest from Georgia Tech, Illinois, Marquette, Northwestern, Animal Planet,  Vanderbilt, Providence and Rhode Island.

The left-hander told the recruiting website he averaged 22 sightings and 14 rebounds this past year.

"Normally it's against NCAA rules to comment on recruits, but how often do you sign the missing link?" said Coach Smiles.  "He's got harrier legs than we like in our recruits, but Sas brings something that we, or really anyone, hasn't been able to find to the table."

Quatch would fill the last scholarship that Nebraska has for 2014-15 season.

Thanks for carrying on the tradition of enormous signees to the program on this day, following the recruitment of the centers from Iceland and Brazil in the past. (Actually the one from Brazil turned out to be true, so maybe this hairy one will also work out)

long arms.  added reach.  that's important.

my big question is eligibility.  after that whole mess with trying to get the yeti eligible a couple years ago, I don't know.  something about those mythical creatures the clearing house just doesn't seem to like.

that, and they're always pretty raw from a skill standpoint.  and they smell.

Actually (and I'm not making this up) there was a sighting of the god Pan reported outside York many years ago. I guess we did not recruit him since the hoofmarks would not have been good for the floor at the new arena. He might have worked out for the pep band though.
