In what universe did anyone ever expect NU to beat Indiana home and away.   I've been following this team since the late 60's and this is unreal.   The only time I can remember anything like this was the season when we won 24 games.

Count me as one.  Was thinking this same thing.  We beat Indiana twice this year.

You probably didn't expect Tom Crean to be running Indiana back then.

I laughed.

What about the season that we won 26 games?

Well, for those of us who are older, there were some pretty good teams under Joe Cipriano and Moe Iba. If the NCAA tournament had been seeded like it is now, we would have had several teams earn bids under them. Someone with a better knowledge of it can help out but I think they only took 16 conference champions plus a few more at large. Since you've been following since the late 60s you just missed Cipriano's 65-66 squad. It was, IMO, the best team we ever had. Finished 2nd to Kansas and only lost 2 conference games.

That said, I did not see this current season coming at the outset. I thought it would be a good season if we managed an upper half of the bottom finish and an NIT bid. I have more pride in how this team has done than any I recall. The only team in recent memory that come close are the "Mighty Mites" under Doc in 08-09 and all the games Ryan Anderson (all 6' 4" of him) effectively played center. I think they were only a win or two from a bid as well but they didn't get it.

64-65 would have been when I started going. Was only 4 then so don't really remember those guys, but remember having to have my mom announce the starting lineup and having me in. I would stand out in the hall and when she called my name I would run in and get in bed to go to sleep. She says we did that way into the summer.

The 65-66 team finished 20-5 and rated #11 in the country.  In those days there actually were no at-large bids - only conference champions made it into the NCAA tourney.  That did not change until the early 70's when NC State and Maryland were rated #1 and #2 but only one of them could get in - so you had the #2 team in the country not even get into the tournament.  Field did not expand to 64 until about 1985.   In between there we had a few teams that would have gotten in for sure with a 64 team fied - including the 82-83 team that went to the NIT Final Four.  That year we were the last Big 8 team playing as the ones who made the NCAA were eliminated before the NIT Final Four.
