Like I said in the OP, name one that had more riding on it.  The years we've made the tourney, we were in with some room to spare.  This year, it's come down to the last regular season game.  Win and we're in.  Period.

 

There might have been bigger wins.  Beating KU a couple of times.  Knocking off Texas.  Whatever.  But those games didn't have the program's NCAA tourney hopes riding on it.  Just one game.  Win and we're in.

When Pike went off in the Big 8 Championship and we brought home that trophy...that was pretty darn big.

 

When we went to NY and won the NIT championship.  That was pretty big.

 

When our bunch of munchkins played and defeated the Wilt Chamberlain led KU J-Hawks...that was pretty big.

 

When we went to Missouri and beat the Tigers without Hoppen...that was pretty important.

 

Again, this is a huge game, especially given the limited success of our program.  But we have played and won some big/important games...But hey, that is the past.  The next game up is the most important right now.

I agree it is probably the most important home game ever.  The only atmosphere that I think would compare would be when Dave Hoppen was a freshman and we made a run to the NIT Final Four.  That was back when the NCAA field was smaller and the NIT really meant something.  Devaney was crazy for those games - and PBA will be crazy on Sunday!

Not only is it a win-and-your-in game, but this is an absolute tone-setting, springboard game for Miles and Co. We win this game and we will open so many doors recruiting-wise.

This year reminds me a lot of 1986-87 - Danny's first team:

 

- Like this year's team, that team got off to a 1-4 start in conference.

- The final week of the regular season they got a key road win against an NIT team - Oklahoma St

- Finished off the season at home in front of a sellout crowd against a KU team.   I still think the loudest moment I've heard at the Devaney Center was after Buchanan dished off to Vick for a layin in a double-overtime win.  Could Wisconsin be this year's KU game?

 

Now, that team needed one more win in the Big Eight tournament to get to the dance and fell short against KSU by one point.  But they did make the NIT final four.  Nice season, but I hope we fare a little better this year.

My first instinct was to disagree with you Norm, but the more I think about it, I think you are right.  Barfknecht noted earlier this week that this might be the biggest game since NU-KU in 1991 - both top ten teams at the team.  I'd say we were fighting for a higher seeding in that game, where now we're just fighting to get in on the last day of the regular season.  Which, by virtue of that, I think that makes Sunday a bigger game.

Only team that can match that is Wisconsin if they win tonight.

Can someone point me in the direction of the rules so I can see what (if anything) can be used to make extra noise?? I have no problem pressing the issue and getting something taken away... I just want to make sure I am not kicked out. I will have my collapsable vuvuzela for late in the game. I doubt it will be recognizable from the 300s.
