Iowa has got Purdue, then @ Michigan State, then back home with Illinois.  With how they are playing, I think it's gonna be tough to win out.

We don't need another win over Penn State or Northwestern. We want to be able to say we finished 4th in the second-best league in the country. Plus we're then rested and 1 win away from the semis.

Yes, but I dont think we want 4th place unless we win out. I think finishing 5th or 6th would be best.

We'd play winner of Ohio State/NW as it stands now...With an extra day of rest that's not the worst scenario.

But the next one would be winner of #1 and #8/9 game...

I'm not remotely understanding the notion that finishing 4th is a bad thing...

The only bad thing about it is you don't play the 12 seed and you have to play Michigan in the second game.

For anyone interested, you can click on the bracket from this link: http://www.bigten.org/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/big10-m-baskbl-tournament-13-14.html

I'd love another shot at Michigan...after getting another shot at Iowa.

You go for 3rd/4th and don't quibble.  Every time.  Do you not think the committee notices?  We're not Iowa last year who played NOBODY out of conference.  We've got the 23rd or so toughest schedule.  That tends to be rewarded.

Now, we might be the last one in if we lose the first game... but if we win these last 2 and finish 3rd or 4th I just don't see them leaving us out.  Not in this league.

Huskers can have the guaranteed #4 seed by Thurs. Indiana over OSU & Purdue defeating Iowa tomorrow, Michigan over Illinois Tues, & Nebraska beats Indiana Wednesday, & Michigan State over Iowa. At that point, if Nebraska were to defeat Wisconsin (as long as UW had already lost to either Purdue or Penn State), it's #3 seed for NU.

It's whimsical to think a win Wednesday and the right scenario to be 4th is better than winning Tuesday and playing Purdue PSU or NW again. I still stuck to the fact that Lunardi as well as other said we needed 3 more wins.

If getting 3rd or 4th means the next two are wins then I'm for it.

Finishing 4th without 2 more wins is a recipe for not making the tourney. Is take my chances getting #19 versus a bad team and not OSU.

We can at least tie for 4th place by winning our last two so we control our destiny that way, but we don't control our destiny for the #4 seed for the B1G Tourney - we'll lose tie-breakers to Iowa or to both Iowa & OSU if it's a 3-way tie. (EDIT: We could win a head to head tie-breaker with OSU, as long as MSU doesn't fall too far down the standings.)

If it ends up as a 4-way tie at 11-7 though (NU/Iowa/OSU/MSU), we can be the #4 seed. So still a lot of possibilities. In fact with Iowa & OSU still having to play MSU, we can get a lot of benefit if MSU sweeps them or if they sweep MSU. About the only problem we'd have is if MSU lost to Iowa but then beat OSU. So if can just win our last two games, we're in pretty good shape to be the #4 seed. Not a lock, but very good chance.

We even could get as high as the #2 seed if everything breaks correctly, but we'd need several games to go our way, including Wisconsin & Iowa completely tanking.

And one more loss by Indiana will assure us no worse than the #6 seed. It'd be handy if we just took care of handing Indiana that loss Wednesday.  ;)

I'm also in the club that doesn't understand why we need another pointless win. Why are they putting a total number of wins that we need? We keep hearing, need 3 more however they can get em or now need 2 more. Why? What does beating PSU again or Northwestern again prove? Would they still be saying that we need that extra win had we scheduled that additional non conference cupcake? If so, the extra win thing is a bit overblown and ridiculous at this point.

#4 is better than #5. Period. The committee isn't going to take a team that is OUT and put them IN because they beat Penn State or Northwestern in the first round.

They won't. That win gets us nothing.

But if we lose that game, we are toast. We could be IN and get bumped to OUT because we lost that game. It is a no win situation.

The only thing a win on that opening day would do is boost our RPI a few spots because of the 1/4 of the formula component based on our winning percentage. If we'd end up playing a sub-100 RPI team and lost though, that would be a crushing bad loss for a bubble team. I'm in the camp that says it would be better to be the #4 seed.
