kldm64 Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Nice artlcle on Walter and ways he has improved. Looking forward to seeing this kid play. http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/life-in-the-red/pitchford-grows-in-more-ways-than-one/article_d84dd4ba-1bc7-11e3-8916-001a4bcf887a.html 49r, Norm Peterson and hhcmatt 3 Quote
The Coach Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Walter seems like a great guy, I think he's going to be very good before he's done here. Now I'm hoping to see a similar article about Vucetic reshaping his body. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 According to the article, after coming here he dropped about 15 pounds of fat and then added about 20 pounds of muscle. That's actually pretty impressive. His body fat % is down considerably even though his weight is up. No wonder people seem impressed with his athleticism. Can't wait to see how the kid plays. atskooc 1 Quote

Absolutely! I think think this kid is going to give us some serious help! I'm hoping he'll be our best big since Maric (I know, that's not saying too much). Quote

atskooc Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 If you are talking to me yeah it is. Really? Rich King wasn't a quality big? Derrick Chandler wasn't a quality big? Venson Hamilton wasn't quality? Quote
49r Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Mikki Moore? I mean, if he's good enough to play in the NBA, I'd say that's pretty good... Quote

And they had more around them where as Hoppen didn't. And who has their # retired and hanging in the Bob now Pinnacle bank arena. And call me misinformed if you would like, It's just the way I see it. Quote
a0t0w0 Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 It still keeps me up at night knowing Sasha Kahn (?) from Kansas was drafted, but Maric wasn't. Quote

I guess by that count we've only had three good players in our history. Quote

And call me misinformed if you would like, It's just the way I see it. I will defend your right to have an opinion, but it's wrong. It just is. I'd buy an argument that Mikki Moore never reached his full potential here, but he was a very good player and is still playing in the NBA. Venson Hamilton was Big 12 player of the year, holds school records for rebounds and blocked shots and is top ten in scoring. Aleks Maric was an all conference player on a team that had virtually nothing around him. If you'd go so far as to say that we haven't had much since Hoppen, I'd be right along with you, but to say we've had nothing, I'm sorry, but it's just factually inaccurate. hhcmatt Posted September 15, 2013 Report Posted September 15, 2013 Sounds like he is helping with recruiting too! If he wants to play power forward, and he should, it certainly would be in his best interest to use both of our scholarships on centers. One down, one to go. Quote
Swan88 Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 Anyone catch this article on Walter Pitchford in the Omaha World Herald over the weekend by Lee Barfknecht? Walter's picture took up most of the top half of the front page of the Sports section that day. Here are some blurbs from the article: A chance recommendation got the 6-foot-10, 230-pounder a look from Nebraska, a scholarship and finally a place to call home. “That’s what it has felt like since Day One,” Pitchford said. “I love this place.” . . . “The biggest thing I learned in my first year here was loyalty,” said Pitchford . . . “Playing for Coach Miles has really put it in perspective. You have to play your role.” Pitchford’s growth in maturity hasn’t muted his confidence. “I think I am the man I need to be to play at this level,” he said, “and dominate at this level.” hhcmatt 1 Quote
