FredsSlacks Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 Another Monday after a trip, another non-commit while on campus. One more to go? That's what I'm thinking. I saw they showed Bron Bron at the OSU/UW game saturday night, but I didn't see any 7 foot high school centers anywhere near him... Exactly. Yea, shaq and lebron may show up to these games, but I doubt they want to spend all their time with a 17 year old. Heck, Lebron didn't even go to OSU. How is he suppose to sell them on the program when he never played there? Quote
ajb5856 Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 Does anyone have access to the rivals article from this weekend that can give us a little run through of what it said? I will as soon as one is written. So far there's nothing. Quote

Whether he ends up there or not, having him there left an impression, without a doubt. Remember, it all matters. It all does matter. However, basing your college decision on what celebrity you met there on your visit is a little ridiculous. I'm not saying it doesn't make an impression, but even if you don't choose that school you still met LeBron James. It's not like Shaq or LeBron is going to be there to escort you to and from classes when you arrive on campus. I'm sure some recruits out there base part of their decision on the celebrity they met but the smart ones don't. ER is looking for a good fit, a good school, a place to learn and grow for however many years until he gets to the league. He's not basing his decision on Shaq or LeBron. Quote
uneblinstu Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 He's not, clearly. He's fortunate that he has people on these trips with him to help him stay grounded and not get caught up in the moment. Not every kid has that. Quote

Kenya Hunter, pushing another big man to commit elsewhere, no other big men being brought in for visits...hmmm. I think he's ours and the coaches already know it. this is my leading theory...to much is going on for Tim Miles, not to think he has at least a 80% chance of getting him. I mean were not going have to any big men of comparable size, nor are granting visits at this time to Deng, or Smith again, and we let wacker walk, and let pinder leave w/o a offer...this will be extremely interesting. Statistically speaking, the more places he visits, the lesser our chances are. If he's already committed here in mind or secretly...awesome. Like other people have said though...it's much more plausible that even he doesn't know where he's going yet. Quote

I'm not sure I follow this reasoning. NU currently has a 6'10" sophmore, a 7'1" sophmore and a 6'8" 255 lb. junioron its roster. Miles has also already received a verbal from a 6'10" center who plays with his back to the basket (same as Robinson). Miles does not need to bring in another stiff big man just to fill a spot. He has the luxury of going after a difference maker like Robinson. If that doesn't pan out, he can look elsewhwere. As things stand now, if Robinson were to commit and Vooch stays on the team next year, NU will have 5 big men on the roster next year, with 3 to 4 of them being true post players. That is a lot of post players. I don't think we can read anything in to who has and who has not visited when it comes to Robinson. Quote

Deng has yet to visit besides Hammond we haven't returned a call to anyone else for big man, and we don't need another guard or wing...we need center, and from Hammond's film id prefer to see him at the 4 rather than the 5 if we could land ER...again just my theory. as ajb said maybe he's just taking visits to get free meals. and a mini vacation, from personal experience i know this to be true, back in the 60's my father was a two sport start in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. he had offers from all the colleges along the east coast, but he wanted to leave and go to Iowa, as his father had asked of him. But he still went and saw all the other places, and had those experiences with no intention of ever going there. its plausible. Quote

That is a lot of post players. I don't think we can read anything in to who has and who has not visited when it comes to Robinson. True. But of all the post players you just listed, 2 have been on the roster at least one year and are longshots to see the floor, 1 is an unproven incoming JUCO player, and Hammond is an incoming freshman for 2014. I see your point about having four 'bigs' on the roster next year, but it's not like we are stacked with talent. Hammond may be a step up. But we've heard over and over and over again about Miles wanting 2 true bigs for this class. Yes, it's a luxury that we can wait on top tier guy like Elbert. But while waiting on him you would think that the coache would be planning on other bigs coming in to check us out in case ER doesn't pick us. And its quite possible this is going on and we haven't heard of anyone visiting yet but it just seems a bit odd. Quote

Yeah, he was probably star-struck at least a little bit seeing Shaq in Baton Rouge and Lebron in Columbus, Ohio. But, do you really think Lebron cares where Elbert goes to college? You really think Lebron cares if Elbert goes to Ohio State? You think Lebron cares enough to message Elbert about his college decision and where he might want to go? You think Shaq cares? You think Shaq is messaging Elbert about his college choice and encouraging him to go to LSU? I doubt it. But Walter Pitchford cares where Elbert goes to college. It is another way to call people that have no control of the circumstances they were dealt with, think special education, but in a less "offensive" way for message boards. hhcmatt 1 Quote
