ajb5856 Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Elbert was in orange on the sideline and he looked every bit of 7 feet. But maybe that's because I was 35 rows up. Miles looked like a small child next to him. He seemed to be enjoying himself. Miles was snapping pics of Elbert, his family, and the AAU coach with the field in the background. Elbert and his AAU coach kept turning around and gazing up at the massive east stadium, admiring its hugeness. Quote
Swan88 Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 For the past half-hour or so, I've been trying to post a picture taken on my Iphone of Elbert Robinson, Kenya Hunter and Walter Pitcford standing along the sidelines at today's game--but can't get it accomplished because the picture, apparently, has too much data. Any suggestions on how to get this accomplished? Quote
Norm Peterson Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Swan, don't know the answer about the picture but I do have a question: Was C Elbert Robinson noticeably taller than Walter Pitchford? Quote
ajb5856 Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 There's a pic on twitter with Elbert and Walter in it. Walter is wearing a hat and Elbert is wearing his huge flat top. If you exclude both headpieces, Elbert appears to be a good 3 inches taller than Pitchford. And Pitchford is even in front of Elbert who is tilting his head and shoulders to the side a little. Quote
Swan88 Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Fixed! And that picture blown up a bit Anyway, Norm, Elbert Robinson does seem to be taller than Walter Pitchford. 49r and trickey 2 Quote

fred1212 Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Walter is a great recruiter It's looking good for an Elbert commit soon imo Quote
ajb5856 Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 @RobinWashut: Elbert Robinson's #Nebrasketball official visit couldn't have gone much better. Now NU is near the top of his list($) http://t.co/AAz6anokb5 Quote
ajb5856 Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Paraphrasing some highlights here for those who dont subscribe. Robins article is a real gem. Kinda chuckled at the part where he said we were the "only show in the state". Also got a kick out of Johns' (AAU coach) comments about visiting Ohio State. He basically said he's not looking forward to that visit and its "going to be hard to deal with." He's already been there, knows where they play, and their arena is old. Nowhere close to on par with our A+ facilities. They were all very impressed with the volleyball game on Friday night. Couldn't believe there were that many people for a volleyball game. The article states that Johns and the family are going to have a great influence on Elbert's decision but Elbert will make the final call. Robin explains that while Elbert and the family didnt fully understand what to expect out of Nebraska since we've just been on Elbert since Kenya came to town, they were all blown away by every part of the visit. The plan is to finish visits to Ohio State, Georgetown, and also potentially add a 5th official before making a decision, but it will be hard for any visit to top this one. trickey, Silverbacked1 and 49r 3 Quote
The Coach Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 I'm worried about Georgetown. That's a good school with a tradition of putting big guys into the NBA. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Good, that means that we did everything right. If he chooses to go some place else it isn't because a poor effort on our part. 49r and hhcmatt 2 Quote

ShortDust Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 I'm worried about Georgetown. That's a good school with a tradition of putting big guys into the NBA. I agree with that, but the recent bigs from there were developed by the coach that left and came here. After reading the AAU coaches comments on osu, I think it's between us and gtown now. With hunter being here I like our chance a lot more. Think we have a 75% shot to land him. Hope I'm right. Quote
Cookie Belcher Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 That article sounds promising. Nothing we can do now but cross our fingers. Quote

Agree that it's going to come down to us and Georgetown. We will find out how much pull Kenya has. I feel that we have the nod on facilities, the coach (Kenya), immediate playing time, and hopefully the family would prefer him to stay in the Midwest and closer to home. A lot of things are lining up in our favor here. Hopefully Elbert sees all these things the same way and he ends up here. Hopefully all of the things that seem to be to our advantage are too good for Elbert to pass up. I like where we are, now we just wait. Quote
The Coach Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 We do have the facilities now but G-Town has the NCAA Tournament and NBA Player banners. Seeing Ewing, Mourning, Mutombo, Hibbert, Monroe, etc. on the walls has to have more pull than seeing Hoppen and Piatkowski and a bunch of NIT banners. But if he wants to make his own mark like someone said, then maybe that won't matter. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 We continue to impress these recruits when they come to town. I am not sure when, but one of these days in the not to distant future, we are going to start hitting some dramatic home runs!!! Quote
49r Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 FWIW, he went from just over 900 twitter followers on Friday morning to just shy of 1300 as of right now. Quote
FredsSlacks Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Really hard to say what our chances are when you're going against other great schools. Elbert really can't go wrong with any school he picks. We are the best fit if Elbert wants to make his own mark, get immediate playing time, and play in top facilities. Quote
Swan88 Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 As between Nebrasketball and Georgetown, we have the B1G advantage. Wacker's comments from last week, for example, noted his belief that the B1G is "the best" basketball conference in the country and allows an athlete to test his prowess against the very best players and teams throughout his college career. Georgetown previously held out such a prospect for recruits, but the departure from the former Big East of the likes of Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati calls such a prospect into question for present-day recruits. Norm Peterson Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Someone posted recently that a friend who had seen Robinson didn't believe he was really 7 feet tall. Robin Washut has a twitter picture posted in the Husker script thread on the main board of Robinson standing next to Pitchford and towering over him. Not only do I believe he's every bit of 7 ft to 7'1", I also believe he's nowhere near 330#. The 290# sounds about right. This is not a fat kid. This is not the HS version of Andre. This kid has an NBA frame. Would LOVE to see him in a Husker uni next season. And the two seasons after that. (He'll return for his junior year because he'll be disappointed with our loss in the Sweet 16 when he's a sophomore and he'll feel like he still has something to accomplish in college.) Quote
