bball23 Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 Lee has a nice article about some guys coming in this weekend. Still hoping to get Deng Deng on campus as well. I like Deng Deng. I like the way he moves on his video and his court vision as well as ball handling for a wing. I really think Miles is big on finding those guys that are in the 6'5-6'8 range that can all handle the ball well, shoot and pass. Obviously every team wants those type of players, but I really think Miles wants that 6'2 type PG and surround him with 4 guys as described above. Can be a nightmare for teams to match up with when all of your players when they get the rebound can get out and go. Plus you are so long when on defense. He may not have that "true" center, but if you have 4 wings that can handle the ball and shoot, that can make the other team have to adjust to what you are doing. So even if they have that huge guy inside but he can't get out and run and defend against a more athletic wing he is kind of limited in what he can do. You can always double in the post with players, but post players can't always get out and guard around the perimeter if need be. http://www.omaha.com/article/20130826/HUSKERS/130829126/1001#two-hoops-prospects-plan-to-visit-on-football-weekend Quote
Huskerpapa Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 Good to see these recruits coming in on the weekend of the reopening of Memorial Stadium...it should be loud and obviously, we will set an attendence record given the addition. Quote
bobcat402 Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 I’m beginning to notice, that Miles is recruiting and assembling a roster that resembles those teams that Izzo up at MSU has been throwing out for a decade. Big guards, rangy forwards who do multiple things well, and some bangers inside who like to rebound, score inside and can pass. hhcmatt 1 Quote
cipsucks Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 I like Deng Deng. Sounds like a Cher song..... Quote

bball23 Posted August 27, 2013 Author Report Posted August 27, 2013 I want to get Deng Deng on the roster so anytime he does something sweet I can say "DANNNNNG! Deng." Quote
FredsSlacks Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 FWIW, smith said he is now 6'8 on his twitter page. He sounds like a late bloomer, and Miles seems to like those kind of recruits. bobcat402 and Silverbacked1 2 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 I'm curious about the back story on Gilmore and Smith. Did we cool on Gilmore or the other way around? Or are we still a contender and the fans just aren't in on the behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing to get him here on an official visit? I would say it looks promising for Creighton that his mom signed up for an account on their board and told them the family was impressed. Maybe their play over the summer suggested that Gilmore and Smith are headed in opposite directions. Some of the media reports seem to have Smith really impressing over the summer while Gilmore is apparently playing on a team with guys who are at a higher level than he is, so it might be hard for him to shine. (I'm just going by memory on that, so I could be mistaken.) I don't know. I'm just very curious to know what the situation is. Can anyone shed any light? Quote

Considering I just wrote a bunch of stuff about Gilmore, I put it here. Since this is a general topic, a devi's advocate question: Assume that the recruiting board was viewable by the general public. Also assume that Gilmore's mother probably has either searched for him and would have found it. Overall the spin on Leon is fairly favorable. You obviously can't say that about every recruit. If someone involved with a recruit's family ever posted on here the tone would probably immediately turn to overly favorable. Would this help recruiting him? Would this hurt recruiting him? Would it matter? Quote

Maybe with the scholarship situation, Nebraska would like to wait until Spring before adding a 3rd member to the class, if they do add a 3rd? A PF or C is needed for the 2nd spot, and the coaches have some indication that Smith might be willing to wait and see whether another spot opens up, while Gilmore is not willing to do so? Of course that theory would be debunked if Smith decided to commit this weekend or shortly thereafter. Quote
The Coach Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 I haven't really seen many reports about Smith this summer. This is all I could find: Zach Smith (Pro Skills 17U) – Zach Smith is a 6’7” wing from the class of 2014. Smith has big time leaping ability. Smith is a hustle points type of player who scores off the offensive boards and finishing in transition. Smith is a tremendous shot blocker from the help side and does a great job on the glass. Smith needs to work on his handles and jump shot to continue to solidify his game. I'm kind of wondering if he has a committable offer at this time. I'm not really big on wings who can't shoot or dribble. Now if he were to grow a couple inches into a Power Forward, that would be different. But Gilmore is 6'7 and actually has guard skills, and is pretty athletic as well. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 Well, considering that 2015 class has a lot of room in it and that anyone we take isn't likely going to be ready for prime time right out of the gate their freshman year, why not take the best player available now? We have a big for this class. We can get another big in the next class. I'm not sure of the need to take two bigs in this class if we only have 2 spots. I think we've got a good big in the fold. The second spot should go to the best player we can find if we can find someone really good, regardless of position. And, if another spot opens up, take a 2nd big with the third scholarship. Which means I don't have any idea of what to make of Gilmore being interested in Creighton and us not seeming to be very involved with him, if that's in fact the case. Maybe the coaches are going with who they think is a better player. And maybe they think Smith is a better player than Gilmore. But it honestly leaves me confused. Quote
FredsSlacks Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 Gilmore may be a higher rated recruit, but his offers are not much better than Smiths Gilmore- UNLV, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Creighton, Baylor, OK St, TCU. Smith- Marquette, TCU, Texas Tech, Washington St, Nebraska, Creighton, UTEP, St. Bonaventure, san jose st, wright st. When you consider that Smith is a late bloomer, his offers are pretty impressive. Norm Peterson Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 Watch Gilmore drop out of the Rivals top 150 and Smith jump into it. That would cause some heads to spin. Quote
huskerbaseball13 Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 Sounds like Houston may be a player for Gilmore. And rumor has it momma may want him to stay close to home. With us only having one schollie it appears we are looking elsewhere. Quote

Huskerpapa Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 I have yet to hear of one potential recruit who did not enjoy their visit here. What I like to hear though, is I AM iN!!! Quote
cwshuskers Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 We can't take their commitment yet when we have big boy visiting next week and possibly a couple more visitors to come. Quote
The Coach Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 I'm kind of relieved that there were no commits. These guys seem like "Plan B" guys. When the big guy visits next week, Miles should do everything short of locking him inside Hendricks until he commits. A Top 60 recruit would bring us more national attention, on top of the hype for Tai Webster, the new arena, and hiring Kenya away from Georgetown. Quote
ShortDust Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 http://nebraska.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1543791 Robin states, that miles wanted him to visit Boise st still and he also scheduled an in home with him for Monday the 9th. I think he commits on the in home and then we will have an idea of Robinsons thoughts. Quote

I take that to mean we are going to go all in on Robinson next weekend and if we don't think there is a great chance he is going to commit, Miles is going to tell wacker on Monday that we want him here. Quote
ShortDust Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Yea I think wacker commits on Miles's in home. This would be after Robinson has already been here. Robinson may be the 3rd piece, but I don't think that he will commit on the spot, especially with so many big schools still on his visit list. Just have to wait and see. Quote
