TheKamdyMan Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 per an article found by a member on Rivals it looks like reclassified 2013 recruit Kerem Kanter has Nebraska in his top 5. http://www.abc6.com/story/22229202/pc-recruits-in-providence-tournament http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Kerem-Kanter-139762 Final Five Providence... BC... Auburn... Rutgers... Pitt... and Nebraska. His brother is Utah jazz PF Enes Kanter. Quote
Nebrasketballer Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 I haven't seen enough film on him to know if he is a stud or not, but my initial reaction would be that I would rather Nebraska go after a Center, so that Pitchford, Smith, and Rivers can play the PF spot. If the kid has the same kind of skills as Tummala (which would make him too good for Nebraska not to sign him if they can), then I will likely change my tune, but my initial reaction is that Nebraska currently has 3 players that can play the 4-Spot, but no legit contributors for the 5-Spot. I think that both Pitchford and Smith could do some good things at the 5-Spot, but I think the more natural position for both of them is the 4-Spot. Like Ubel, I think they could manage at the 5-Spot if there is no true Center, but their potential is much greater at the 4-Spot. Quote
The Polish Rifle Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 I've seen 6'8" and 6'9" on separate sites He also reclassified from the 2014 class to 2013 Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 His inside game looks good, but he is like almost twice as big as anybody guarding him. But if he wanted to come play for us I won't be upset. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted May 13, 2013 Author Report Posted May 13, 2013 reminds me a lot of Kris jenkins, a current commit to Villanova. Jenkins is a round mound of rebound and Kanter is just a somewhat taller version. Not overly quick but a sound inside game. If he was the second coming of his brother I'd be all for it but the two arent nearly the same player. Quote
Red Rum Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 I say we get him just to keep him away from Auburn......jerks..... Didn't his brother have to sit out at Kentucky? I forget why. Someone do the leg work for me and google that. Thanks in advance. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 from Wikipedia: On November 23, 2009, Kanter verbally committed to play for the University of Washington Huskies.[1] Kanter chose Washington over UCLA, USC, Indiana and UNLV.[1] However, he re-opened his recruitment in February 2010.[9] On April 14, 2010, Kanter signed a National Letter of Intent to play for coach John Calipari at the University of Kentucky.[5] He was recruited to play for the University of Kentucky Wildcats, but the NCAA declared him permanently ineligible as a collegiate athlete because he received approximately $33,000 from Fenerbahçe Ülker in excess benefits. The NCAA ruled that this amount was above and beyond what was considered acceptable.[10][11][12][13][14] On January 7, 2011, the NCAA rejected Kentucky's appeal, upholding that Kanter was permanently ineligible.[15] Without Kanter, Kentucky still managed to reach the Final Four in the 2011 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. Silverbacked1 Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 Auburn and Pitt. I'm seeing a pattern. Yeah they keep trying to steal our players. Quote

I think with Miles' plan for the offense, we're going to see a lot more of two 4's on the floor a lot rather than a true 4 and 5. That also seems to be a trend in CBB in general. A true center who fits what Miles wants to do will be very difficult to find. Nebrasketballer and bobcat402 2 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 I agree, uneblinstu. Having said that, though, I still think there's room for a guy who can score with his back to the basket. And hopefully this guy can. If he signs with us, of course. If he doesn't sign with us, then to hell with whether he can score or not. Particularly if he chooses Auburn. Nebrasketballer 1 Quote

Isn't that Enes Kanter who was a first round NBA draft pick by Utah? His father was very upset how the whole thing went down. If there are any qualification issues, they probably have been addressed. Vinny Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 Auburn and Pitt. I'm seeing a pattern. Those teams, along with Nebraska, haven't filled their need for big men this late in the game. Like us, they are going after the best available big men left. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 Why did he reclassify from a '14 to a '13? I know why Wiggins did it, but why did this kid? Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted May 13, 2013 Author Report Posted May 13, 2013 Why did he reclassify from a '14 to a '13? I know why Wiggins did it, but why did this kid? no clue. The list of guys that moved up is a list of 5 star studs in Vonleh, Selden, Wiggins, and then there is this guy. My guess is inflated dreams of being anything close to his brothers abilities and thinks he can get to the NBA sooner. Quote
FredsSlacks Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 Recent vid. I like this kid more than the kid from Finland who visited last week. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 If the kid has a great work ethic, grab him. If he doesn't, pass. To answer that question, in Miles I trust. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 If he were to come we might have a very good starting rotation with all our lefties. Quote

ajb5856 Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 What is with Pitt? Seems like every recruit we are on, Pitt is also on the list. Are we targeting the exact same type of player or is there some connection other than that Jamie Dixon was rumored to be a candidate for our job last year? Kanter, Uchebo, Tummala, and I'm pretty sure Webster had Pitt on his list. Quote
