How many "next Larry Birds" have there been over the past few decades at many institutions anyway?

Does the correct guess get some of Cip's salsa?  If so,I will open with a guess of 7

Wow, I hope for you guys sake that Tai at least makes it onto campus...

Same here.

Keep in mind, those recruiting disasters occurred before our current coach arrived, but the wounds are still fresh.

Nate Johnson?  I don't think Nate was a disappointment.  He was much better his second year here and not as good his first, but his second year he was oustanding.

Correct, Norm, I agree.  Loved Nate. In fact, I loved him way more than Barry Collier did, who for some reason wanted to prove lots of points with Nate his Junior year, and limit his playing time, especially in the NIT game in Omaha.  I was just answering the question in terms of a Kansas City guy from the early 2000s who was compared to Iverson.

HB, you and I were answering the same question.  You just got yours in before me.  I'm a slow typer.  Or you were just quicker on the draw.

Norm, I even did that one while on the phone.  Brought my A multi-tasking game on that one.

I really loved Nate Johnson and agree with the sentiment he was a playmaker. Had he been 3 inches taller, he would have been a synch for the NBA. I remember he got a really long look from the Lakers and Kobe liked him.

But one bad memory of Nate. Texas A&M's first road win in like 6 years or something ridiculous. We scored like 45 points. Used a timeout to get the last shot, down by 1. He dribbles, dribbles, dribbles, launches like a 30 foot contested jump shot as time expires, off the backboard. No play was run. Ugliest end to a game I can remember in the last 20 years.

At least he got the shot off, I seem to remember a game where we did the same thing and never got the shot off.  Given the age and the number of pickled brain cells I have I can't remember who we were playing, the year or if it really ever happened.

I think the reason you can't remember who we were playing is because it's happened on so many occasions over the last 15 years

Collier's teams seemed to have a knack for pulling defeat from the jaws of victory.

Who can ever forget that home loss to Iowa State his first year?  To this day, that one still floors me.

Then I remember listening to a Minnesota road game on the radio where we were up like 4 points with a second left and somehow managed to lose.  Had something to do with a missed 2nd foul shot where they got the rebound and were fouled on the putback to get a 3 point play all within a second.  Don't recall all the particulars but we had a virtually insurmountable lead given the time remaining and we STILL managed to lose.

GAAAAAAH.

Wow, when you look over that list of players that were suppose to be our top recruits you see a lot of names that really did not pan out.  Sallie was a good player, but I don't think he was nearly as good as people here in Nebraska made him out to be.  Harris was okay, but not close to a game changer.  Diaz never really had the fire to be a big time player.  Niemann had major injury issues, but I don't think many really expected him to be a game changer either.  Joaquim has been better than I thought he would be and Standhardinger did not ever seem to really fit in with the system or his teammates.  Looking back, I'm not sure how much we really missed out on with these guys.  It's more like we played the "what if" game with some of these guys and built them up to be better than they were or are.

If you could vote a post up more than once, then I would have voted it up at least 5 times...This news is obviously very good for Nebraska.

I'm probably going to keep holding my breath until Rosenthal retweets it and makes it official.

Alright panic monkeys, if you caught Miles on Sports Nightly, you just heard him say they're still working on some eligibility issues with Tai.  Said he's concerned, not panicking yet, but he is concerned.  Discuss.  Go.
