There's a conversation on twitter right now in which its mentioned that Tai Webster may have a pro contract offer that he's considering...

Jason King from ESPN mentioned it...the people conversing about it apparently heard it on the radio?

@DryHuskerFrog: @HuskerDave8 @damonbenning apparently Tia Webster has a pro contract offer on the table.

We need to come up with a counter offer.

I'll start it off with 3 jars of salsa (1 each of mild, medium and hot) and 1 of our .50 caliber ammo cans containing 18 bags of Patriot Jerky.

Feel free to add to the kitty.....    :)

Well, my tweet was the beginning of that conversation which was precipitated by Jason King casually dropping that juicy tidbit into the conversation between games during the CWS on 1620.

Glad Robin tweeted that to hopefully calm the waters a bit.  The thing that caught my attention during the interview was King mentioning something more a long the lines of a big time contract that they were hoping he doesn't sign.  We'll see what comes of it, if anything. Hopefully nothing.

Also, Sean Callahan said on the radio that Washut isn't concerned about whatever hurdles remain for Tai. Again, we'll see...

Summary of Robin's article:

- Family is determined to get him to Lincoln by July 1 and believe they'll get these qualification hurdles taken care of.

- Tai has had multiple pro offers, one of which was for a very large figure. Tai's dad said he would have signed it, but that Tai turned it down and is determined to play at Nebraska.

- If Tai can't enroll at Nebraska by the start of this semester, they will not pursue other options, but will instead figure out how to get him qualified to attend Nebraska.

Overall it was a very positive update.

Interesting quotes by Tai's father, very interesting. For those that don't subscribe, Tony Webster mentions the contract offers and that Tai has turned them all down. Then he says that this last one was for big money and that if it was him, he would sign it for sure, but his son is 100% committed to Nebraska. He wants to be here so badly that he doesn't want the contract.

Sage advice...although important in life, money is not everything.  If Tai has a dream that goes beyond professional ball or professional ball down under, then he has a good head on his shoulders...keep pushing it Tai, we want you playing and schooling in Lincoln.

If Webster ends up joining Sallie and Brumbaugh on the list of legendary players who never actually played for the Huskers, then you are all welcome to grab your own ammo cans of Patriot jerky and join me in the bunker because it will be a very long winter.

Is a "verified twitter account" something different than a regular twitter account?

(Sorry, I'm such a nube.  Or is that noob?)

To the best of my limited knowledge a verified twitter account just means that Twitter aknowledges that you are in fact that person on twitter (not a fake) and have a high enough status to deserve verified status. It's mostly celebrities, athletes, actors, musicians and such. There are a few people on my twitter feed that probably should be verified before Tai since he's just a HS kiwi basketball player and these people are on TV or successful comics or etc. How twitter decides who get verified and who doesn't is above my pay grade.

Hope that didn't muddy it up too much for ya Norm.

If we can't trust Tai Webster's father, who can we trust?

If you're Tai Webster, you probably believe that you're going to be a star and that you're destined for the NBA.  It doesn't sound like he's in desperate need for money and I doubt someone is going to pick him in this year's NBA draft.  Thus, coming to the US to play college ball IS the next step.

It could also be relative to his country.  He could be a bigger deal in New Zealand than he would be in the states which might warrant such verification.  Just speculating...

We've known for over 6 months that Tai would rather come to NU than be a pro and get paid. That really isn't the issue right now. The issue is that he is not eligible.

He got verified on twitter when the New Zealand Breakers won the Australian Basketball League title for the 3rd time in a row. All the players that have twitter are verified (no matter how few minutes they got). While Tai isn't a big deal in New Zealand, the New Zealand Breakers team has a decent following.
