Remember that thread on the old board when we were trying to compare neck length and where their shoulders were for some picture with Diaz and Niemann and Ubel, trying to figure out which one was really taller?  Discussing angles and sh!t?  That was funny.  :P

Creighton team picture at the above link. McDermott is standing next to Echenique, who is listed at 6'9". McD looks several inches shorter. They're lying about one of them, that's for sure.

Several inches? I don't think so. McDermott is standing behind Gibbs and Echinique, not parallel. Closer=bigger

Look at the year before. He's the same height as Mogboluwaga Oginni who is also listed as 6'8"

If you look at the current one, Mogboluwaga Oginni appears taller than him.

However, Creighton did list him as 6'7" his first two years and now 6'8"

I would say McDermott is, at minimum, 3 full inches shorter than Echenique. Maybe 4 inches or more. If you shave McDermotts head he tops out right at the tip of Echenique's ear, and since his forehead is extra large it is at least 3 inches, most likely 4 or 5.

He's standing behind the other guys?  Really?  Their shoulders are touching.

Both of his arms are behind the other guy's arms.

It's entirely possible he's just a step behind those guys.

Given my above post I'm essentially sure this is the case.

If anyone thinks McDermott is 6'5" they're crazy.

The three biggest misrepresentation on the internet today are:

1) height of a basketball player

2) 40 time of a football player

3) and "Yes, I look exactly like my profile picture and of course I'm single."

Silverbacked, if you look exactly like your profile picture, I'm shocked -- SHOCKED -- that you're single.

It's also entirely possible he simply pulled his arms back to help him fit in the space.  I think it's more likely that than he's a "step" (however that's defined) behind them.

Anybody know how tall his dad is?  I've seen lots of pictures of him next to his father.

Honestly, I'm not even sure why we're arguing about this.  Hell, I was going so far as to attempt to measure the height of their numbers by the pixels in the picture to show he's not behind them (I was coming up with McD's number as slightly larger than the others, but there's no way it was an accurate means of taking the masurement).  I felt like a dork.

Haha.  Yeah, I wasn't trying to say that McDermott is only 6'5".  I was just saying that Gibbs is 6'5" and Echinique is 6'9", so there is no way that McDermott is 6'8", because the height difference between McDermott and Gibbs is much less than the height difference between Mcdermott and Echinique.  From looking at the pictures I think its safe to say that McDermott is probably in the 6'6"-6-7" range.  And that is the same range that Sai Tummala is in.  Which was what my initial point was.

I really don't care what McDermott's height is or if Creighton is fudging on his height in their roster.  I was just pointing out that Tummala and McDermott have a similar skill set and they are a similar size and that since McDermott was able to play the 4 spot (and be so successful in doing so that he was voted 2 time AP All-American) it is entirely possible for Tummala to do well in the 4 spot as well (even though he is not the prototypical bruiser of a "power" forward).

Sorry if my reference to McDermott's size in comparison to Tummala's made anyone lose any sleep.

Take this for what it's worth...I was told this by a scout who is not affiliated with the Nebraska program but knows the region.

Leslee Smith is a legitimate Big Ten big man and will contribute right away.

Matthew Atewe was raw and would take a while to develop into a contributor, that is if he he ever would be.

Sai Tummala is OK, but a stretch to play in the Big Ten in this scout's opinion. Would be a very good mid-major prospect.

Not my opinion's, just someone who has seen them all play. Doesn't really add anything new but kind of confirms what many around here already know. Of course, there are some very good mid-major players out there that would help our team a lot in the immediate future.

Why are we having in depth convo about a Creighton players height in this (or any) thread?? To the point that we've posted multiple pictures (some zoomed in) of Creighton players??

Because we got carried away.

I'm not proud.

Sharpe and Benning had a JUCO recruiting guy on this morning and was high on Smith.  Much like you posted said he is a Big 10 player and will do a good job around the basket, rebounding, and setting screens.  Said he's probably not a starter, but should really help out.
