Let's, for a moment, assume that CrazyforNUHOOPS' information is correct we can rule out the Big 12, the SEC, UNC, Duke, Maryland, Miami, FSU, NC St, UCLA, Arizona, Stanford, Colorado, Oregon, New Mexico, SDSU, UNLV, Colorado St., Creighton, UMBC, Wichita St., Gonzaga, VCU, St. Louis, Notre Dame and Wyoming.

If it's a school with a significant name as nearly everyone has been alluding to, that leaves Clemson, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Xavier, St. Joseph's, Temple, FGCU, Boston College, Virginia, Georgia TEch, Cincy, Pitt, Providence, DePaul, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Florida, St. Johns, Syracuse, ASU, Cal, Oregon st., USC, Utah, Wash, WSU, Memphis, BYU, St. Mary's or UNO.

We've now had just about program with a name of "significance" listed in this thread.  If I'm putting money on it, I'm going with Xavier, Cincy or UNO.  I'm probably wrong.

The team I heard is mentioned in your 2nd paragraph.

I knew if I listed every single team I'd hit on it eventually.  :D

Don't forget to take out the teams in the tournament we just signed for as possibilities.

True, but that only eliminates Clemson from my list...

The Virginia Cavaliers would be a nice get to open up the arena, especially since Nebraska looked closely at their John Paul Jones arena prior to planning the Haymarket arena...

I've added a few teams, so my new list would be:

Mizzou, Oregon, Georgetown, UCLA, Arizona, Memphis, Kansas St, Villanova, Marquette, and St Louis

Mizzou, Oregon, Georgetown, UCLA, Arizona, Memphis, Kansas St, Villanova, Marquette, and St Louis will all probably finish at the top of their conference, and even have a legit chance to win their conference, so that is HUGE for Nebraska's RPI.

I think there is a good shot that it could be St Louis.  With the connection that Chris Harriman has with them added to the fact that they won the A10 last season (going 14-3 in conference) and have a great chance to tear through the conference again next season (Especially now that Butler and Xavier are leaving the A10 for the new Big East).

The two teams that I think have the highest chance of being the opener are Oregon and St Louis.

I want them to open PBA with Washington. Then its the Huskies Vs. Huskers

Two of my alma maters going head to head is always fun. We have a long, quality history with U Dub athletics as well.

I do think they'll want a solid chance at winning the game, though. Don't want to start the arena and season off with a big name blowout.

I would love New Mexico, actually.

Good point, tcp.  We want a foe we can hang with.  Of course, I can't imagine one of those teams that might blow us out being a program that would come here on a home-and-? basis to open the PBA.  We're not going to open the new place with Duke.  I suspect the biggest names we'll be able to muster are teams that we could conceivably beat.

If we are going to return to early 90's form, then we should open with the same teams we used to back then.  Either the EA Sports or Pella Window All-Stars.

If either has disbanded, which I find highly unlikely, then I vote for Wichita State.

NCAA doesn't allow those exhibitions anymore.

You know any repairmen who can help me with that?  It seems to be a recurring issue on my machine.

Remember the year we played the Brisbane Bullets?  Who else did we play...

Athletes In Action

Marathon Oil

Others???

Seems like we played the Ukrainian National Team once.  IIRC, they all had matching jerseys but different shorts.  Like intramurals or church league or something.  Kinda weird.

Reminds me of the SImpsons episode Homer at the Bat where Mr Burns wants to put together a team of ringers

Mr. Burns: I've decided to bring in a few ringers, professional baseballers. We'll give them token jobs at the plant and have them play on our softball team. Honus Wagner, Cap Anson, Mordecai "Three-Finger" Brown...

Smithers: Uh, sir?

Mr. Burns: What is it, Smithers?

Smithers: I'm afraid all of those players have retired and, uh... passed on. In fact, your right-fielder has been dead for a hundred and thirty years.

I loved that episode.

Can't remember the exact dialogue but they get Darryl Strawberry on the team and it's his turn to bat and Mr. Burns tells him, "Strawberry, go hit a home run" which Strawberry promptly does.

Burns says, "I told him to do that."

And Smithers says, "Brilliant strategy, sir."

Dunk City, welcome to Lincoln.

Florida Gulf Coast, the fast-paced, high-flying, dunk-centric basketball team that captured the nation’s attention at last year’s NCAA Tournament and earned the imaginative “Dunk City” moniker, will be Nebraska’s first opponent at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

A source with direct knowledge of Florida Gulf Coast’s schedule told the Journal Star on Friday that the Eagles will christen Nebraska’s new 15,200-seat arena. The source did not know the date or time of the game.
